Hello.
I am a newbie here, and happy to join this forum to know more about Marklin :)

About my subject, I noticed that the destination sign boards carrying different final destinations each other, and wondering why....
For example, Bum1=Munich/Lindau, Bum2=Munich/Freiburg, ABum1=Munich/Chur, ABum2=Munich/Lyon, and Dum=Munich/Lyon.
As the Catalog describes, this car set routing is from Munich to Lindau, while 4 out of 5 do not show Lindau at all.
(Other passenger car sets from Marklin I have, the printed destination sign board matches each other, and I thought it is normal)

I just found this when I was wiping cars, and hope to know the background if this combination is correct yet routing is Munich/Lindau.

If anyone knows about this, I am very happy if you can help me :)

thank you

Hi!

I cannot speak for this particular train, but in eras III and IV through coaches were quite common.
Trains meeting at a station and exchanging coaches. AB coaches with first and second class were often used for that purpose as they could exchange two classes with just a single coach.

This led to trains having passenger coaches before and behind the baggage car.

Märklin advertises the coach set as an authentic composition for the Munich-Lindau route. Some coaches would then go further to other destinations.

According to a post on DSO the train route in 1973 was München-Lindau-Zürich-Geneve with through coaches to Freiburg, Chur and Lyon.

Dear Tom,

Thank you very much for your explanation!
I believe what you've mentioned is the reason, and it does make sense and is indeed convenient for DB and/or other companies to do so.
I thank you again for your clarification and the link.
It is in German, but I tried to read and seems the person raised exactly same question I did :)

best regards
sean
