I was wondering
In some layouts which signals is good for a layout marklin or veissman?

Depends on Era, type, cost, control or no control etc. Do you have a layout already? If so a track plan would also be useful to determine the most appropriate placement of signals. |

Well the Viessmann semaphore signals are very superior to the outdated Märklin ones. I've bought quite many during the autumn and I've been very impressed by them. I haven't tried Viessmanns or Märklins light signals, so there I really can't tell. But since Märklin recently has introduced a new generation of light signals I guess they are more or less equivalent.
But as I said , I've been very impressed with the Viessmann stuff that I've bought so far, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy their signals.

Hi,
For me, whatever looks good on my layout is the one to use.
I have an m-track layout so older classic M* signals are ok and they are way more cheaper than any other functional signal that come with solenoid. I recently puchased a few Brawa light signals and they look good - one downside is that they don't come with the solenoids.

Does Maerklin make their own signals, or do they buy them from someone else now?--MM |

I have only semaphore signals. Replaced the most of them with Viessmann signals. The Viessmann signals are much better looking and move slowly. You need to have about 10 cm free space under the table for those signals, unless you buy a hobby signal. Same signal but the the solenoid is horizontal (as Marklin does) and not vertical. See |

Is Veissmann Signals compatible with Marklin S88/Braking Modules and also can it be recognised by CS1/CS2?

don't know the interaction with cs1 or whatsoever....the only thing i know is not to intermix signals from different manufacturer or kind (semaphore/light) at one certain area of your layout, if you place a maerklin or a brawa or viessmann side by side that will not look good. but you can 'plant' different ones for example at one end of a station and the other, i think no one will notice the difference. and keeping in mind how expensive signals are it would be ridiculous to 'throw away' your old ones (o.k. if money is no issue for you...then go ahead...to your dealer, your friendly, friendly dealer :-)) or if you like high tech digital like the new maerklin light signals, but be aware they fit only to era 4 and later !!! ) my personal point of view is that although the maerklin semaphores are very old (from the 50's) they still look o.k., the only thing i have done to them is to feed the bulbs separately (and even the 7042 with another voltage than the 7036/37/38/40/41) and to minimize the 'rear' light by narrowing the rear hole with some black color bubble.... and to lower all the solenoid cases below the surface... |

I'm very very satisfied with my Viessmann semaphore signals. They look very realistic, are not too expensive and are backed up by the great aftersales department of Viessmann.
Only drawback is that they are quite fragile: three of them disapeared into my vaccuum cleaner [xx(]
I must say I'm very interested into their light signals too. Especially the signals with a speed indicator look great. If I'm not mistaking Lars is operating a couple of them.

No, Viessmann has its own braking module. Which is a lot cheaper. I dont know if it is comatible with CS1 or/and 2.

Picture is from 2007. One of the pictures on my website. See: http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~pabrijs/pabtour1.htmAnd I agree too with Tekin. But look at the whole picture. Semaphore signals and high speed, modern trains don't go together. |

Hello,
Viessmann Signals work perfectly with CS1 and 2. I do not understand why they should be compatible with S88 and Märklin braking modules? These are different things. S88 is connected to CS1 and 2 and not to the Signal, so these two are not getting in touch each other. Braking module is installed in parallel to the Signal so no problem too. They "do not see" each other.
The braking module from Viessman is quite different from the one of Märklin. For the braking action the train has to be completely in the section powered by the braking module incl all pick up shoes (that's why it can brake pulled trains too). If not, it will burn when the pick up shoe will enter the section. If you foresaw the power supply in a station separate from then of the track you cannot use the Viessman braking module, except you have 4m long tracks in your station.
The Viessman Signals are looking good but their quality is not really good. You can read in a lot of forums of Signals not working anymore after a certain time. The Viessman service is ok and replaces them free of charge, but you have to take them out of your layout and it is not really easy sometime.
I have them too, but I'm thinking to replace them with Märklin light Signals, much more reliable. After 2 weeks of work, 2 Viessman Signals are already not working anymore. This is very lousy for that price. Than take the Märklin Signals. They do not look so good but they work for years and years.

Well, in Z scale semaphore, unless you can find some old stock it is a choice of Viessmann or Viessmann as it looks very much as if the new Marklin signals are actually made by Viessmann. I am using a mix of all three; mostly old style Marklin (for economy) but, where they are either inappropriate or won't fit, the Viessmann style will. My biggest regret is that neither company sells Hp0/Hp1/Hp2 signals.
All the best, Chris. |
