Just go to Altronics or Jaycar and buy an 18V DC 2A switched mode power supply (or transformer). Take your M83 with you to ensure that the plug fits. UPDATE: Just looked at both sites. Neither has a 2A pack.. You could contact Noel ( http://www.trainsntoys.com.au/The%20shop/index01.htm) to see if he has an 18V 2A (or 36V) plug pack.. You might need a European to Australian plug converter.. Alternatively, if you are handy with a soldering iron, pick up an old white transformer and solder the correct plug (from Altonics and Jaycar) on the end of it.. |

Well I hope that made it clearer for some but for me it was a buggers muddle. The only text is half in Dutch and half in German.
As I see it the instructions are simple:
You have a layout controlled by an MS via the junction box and red and brown wires to the track - fine leave that alone
You have a 60831 out of the box set at the factory to address 1-4 Connect your turnout to the three screw plugs number one - blue yellow blue Connect the red and brown plugs via a lead to the nearest point on the track taking care of the correct way round (B/O)
The turnout will now respond to item one on the accessory setting on the MS - reverse the two blues if they are the wrong way round.
If you must then buy a power supply and plug it into the side of the 60831 - you can even waste more money buying that other thing M suggest between the power supply and the 60831. Never quite sure why on a modest layout. Turnouts etc tend to be controlled individually one at a time taking a tiny pulse for a milli mili second so they are not likely to bring down the power set up. Fine if you are considering multiple M83 and M84s joined together powering hobby signals etc you make wish to give it a drop more power as suggested. You just have to remember for this powered circuit there is no on/off function to the mains so in my case you have to crawl under the board to pull out the wall socket.

Hi Everyone
I have just tested the decoder with my MS and it was easy to wire and to attach the points
I think there is a problem with translation from german to english with the Universal power supply
It would be more likely that it is an either type situation You can use either a switch mode power pack, the track or a Universal power supply
However we will have to wait and see

Hello
Just a quick question
I had no problem wiring the unit up and getting it running however I noticed there was no red or green symbol illuminated that would give a visual indication of the point setting
Has anyone been able to get the symbols to illuminate

YES - see the manual for the 60831 m83 decoder here https://static.maerklin....c9057fb0741467727670.pdfat page 16 "Monitor Lights". Even in English! The complete manual you may download here, please https://www.maerklin.de/...s/details/article/60831/If you are interested in more information about the m83/m84, you find on Maerklin's website a series of articles about this decoder. Link: https://www.maerklin.de/...men-specials-und-serien/Scroll down the page till the heading: "Der neue Digital-Decoder m83 (Maerklin Magazine 06/2013 bis 04/2014)" Unfortunately these articles are not in English, so you may translate them with a translation software like this one: https://www.deepl.com/translator
