Hi
I solved the problem of the short circuit on the contact rail.
I had the idea of screwing it in to prevent it from moving (my friend Mike had followed me in this direction) and everything is going well.
By the way, I ordered from LDT what I need for better feedback

I’ve made a lot of contact track lately and enjoyed this video. I wish I’d watched it earlier.

Good how to do it movie. For me the disadvantage of contact tracks is the requirement to change every axle on your non-Maerklin rolling stock to AC axles. If you run a lot of non-M stock such as Fleischman or Roco which don't already need axle/wheel changing this can be pricey. Any comments? |

One axle on every bogie and one axle on any two axle wagon should be sufficient, so only half the axles overall, I would suggest. It does mean that a wagon could overhang the end of a block and not be detected as doing so, but careful placement of the block gaps should minimise any danger from this.

As others have said, rather than replacing the DC wheelsets with AC wheelsets (so long as the DC ones run fine re flanges/spacing) - applying a conductive paint to bridge the insulator on each axle is the most efficient way to convert the cars I would expect, so long as the S88 sensing system deployed picks up the low resistance produced by the contact paint (it works for DCC / DC systems as they detectd via current draw, but whether the ground-to-ground sensing of S88 would trigger I'd leave to the folks that have done such a thing). |

I try to change the wheel-sets whenever possible. Because the geometry of the M and K track profile is very different from that of typical 2-rail. But sometimes it is not needed or practical. In that case I change the wheels of just ONE waggon in the consist (the last one in the rake) If there is no way of changing ANY of the wheels, I have to insert a waggon with the right wheels into the consist somewhere. (Again; preferrably the last one in the rake)
For a consist of Rivarossi waggons, where the wheels are two half-parts pushed together in a plastic bushing, I simply added a piece of fine curled-up copper-wire between the two axles inside the bushing, which bridged the separation space of the wheelset. A fast, easy and free remedy. |

Hi Wolf, I use C track with circuit-tracks for contact feedback. I have tried reed switches, both Maerklin and Viesmann, but however carefully I lay them they always bump against vehicle wheels or PUs. Maybe there is a trick to reed switch laying that I don't know. Sorry for the delayed reply. I have been offline for a few days. Jabez |

Thewolf Thank you, very useful video - is it your experience that one needs to put glue or something isolating between the isolated track and the connected track, for M-track this was important, or is removing the connection piece on the rail enough combined with screwing the rail down? |
