Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what the connection between these former East German (DDR) building kit makers. Auhagen has the kit mold now and offers I believe most of the kits that were offered formerly by the other companies.

Thanks for any background info on the kits.

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

AUHAGEN was founded in 1885 and was a private company until 1972. In 1972 all remaining private companies in the modelling-sector were nationalized by the GDR - government. From this year the kits were sold as MAMOS kits. From 1980, after a reorganisation of the modelling-industry, the kits were named VERO. VERO was a subsidiary of the PIKO - combine. In 1990, after the German reunification the company was given back to the original owners and used the name "AUHAGEN" again. Additional they bought other parts of the former VERO which also produced model-railway buildings in 1995.
Confused? Don't worry about the names. It is always the same company.

Regards

Markus

So it was originally Auhagen, then MAMOS, then VERO and now back to Auhagen. It sounds like the "circle of life". Laugh

Do you know where TEMOS comes into this mix? Were they just ready built models?

Thanks for the info Markus!

Hi Chuck,

TEMOS was the brand of a firm named "Herbert Franzke KG Köthen". TEMOS stands for "TEchnische MOdell Spielwaren" (Technical model toys). Like other companies they also were nationalized in 1972 and were included in the VERO - organisation. They were named "VEB THEMOS Köthen", were "Köthen" is the town and "VEB" stands for "Volkseigener Betrieb" (Publicly Owned Operation): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkseigener_Betrieb .

Regards

Markus
