Hi, New to the forum and previously just interested in steam. I bought at auction last week a Marlin HO 2939 starter set, early 60's and real liked the size and style. Worked well. It came with a VT98? 3016 railbus and carriage. The VT did not work. I have scoured the web with no success bt by trial and error found it worked when laid on one side. The 'armature', when depressed on pic 'B' lets it run fine, when released the motor stops. You can tell the extent of my knowledge :-) Any help on this would be really appreciated. Below is a link to a picture Marklin 3016 imageCheers Lawrie

Hi Lawrie,
Not sure exactly what you mean but - your pictures show no trouble - if the motor starts whan you push the axle on the B Side of your picture, it means the collector and brushes need attention.
I suggest in that case to remove the brushes (one is copper one is graphite) they should be approx 5 mm long (if much shorter or very dirty they need replacing) With tweezers try to clean the inside of brush holders (that folded brass sheet), make sure they are not bent (the brushes can move freely Inside) and that the springs are pushing gently the brushes (If you have another Marklin flat collector motor, compare the pressure)
The next step if still not working is to open the motor but it is delicate, try to avoid it. I hope this helps

Jean I concur! Replace the brushes, making sure the copper one is on the proper side and you should be ok. Worst case , the commutator may require some cleaning, but we'll cover that when you get to it! Cheers Jacques |

Thanks for the (quick) input, much appreciated. :-)
It makes sense of my issue.
Any links to a diagram for this model or similar would be good
Sure I can work it out but only after a dram to steady my hands.
Cheers

Lawrie Anything that works! You can find a lot of info on Märklin web site, but probably not on an old item like a 3016. Since it's running when you push the axle, it's definitely just a matter of worn out brushes. We steady hands with Rosé here... , time to take care of the shaking now! Cheers |

Lawrie Here's the exploded diagram from the Marklin website: 3016 details.pdf (135kb) downloaded 82 time(s).I concur that you may need new brushes. Try pushing on them to see if the Railbus starts, that will confirm the issue. The brass coil brush, goes in the brush holder with the 90* angle at the end of the spring. Hope this helps, Harold.

Well, It was the bushes. The left hand one is almost new but the right hand side (brass?) is about 2mm. Now, to source a pair seems less straight forward. Most ebay sites I can find teetotal cost is over £24...mainly postage from either Germany or the US. I have found these: https://www.amazon.co.uk...lin-600300/dp/B00BFBXBC2Be great if they did the job :-) Any ideas? Thanks Lawrie

I've bought a 3016 Railbus, which is originally analog but this one has been digitized by the previous owner. I have ave also recently acquired a new CS3 control station which is giving me a hard time. I'm sure it's great for new digital locos but not a very user friendly equipment when it comes to analog, non-Märklin or altered locos. I can't enter it manually, 3016 is not on the analog nor on the digital list. Could someone help how to make it usable with CS3?
