Here's one of Marklin's little 1:87 scale buildings, the Marklin Start Up 72781 "Restaurant" 3D Puzzle.

My first impressions seeing this at my dealer was, you're coming home with me!

What made it easy was the price at $19.99 Canadian I could afford to check this out and see what the sales team at Marklin is up to with their NEW "3D building puzzles."

Handling the sturdy box told me that Marklin has something special here for me. Removing the wrapper and then opening the box confirmed my suspicion of a first rate card building kit! In the box I was introduced to the building instruction booklet and a sealed bag of high quality, realistically detailed model building card pieces. Going over the parts the first thing I notice was the quality of the card pieces, they are sharp in image quality and the die cutting made removal of the individual pieces a breeze.

Okay time to build. The instruction booklet could use some help in explaining certain aspects of putting the building together. So I would recommend that you go over it a few time and understand the sequence of assembly. Not difficult to do and the end results will speak for itself.

Assembly time for me was about 1 hour not the 2-2.5 hours Marklin says it should take. I would recommend that you use a small scissor to push out the small pieces and to cut the double sided tape.

You be the judge have a look at the pictures.

For $19.00 Canadian, I'm a new owner of a Marklin 3D Puzzle Building, The "Restaurant"

The lamp posts kinda lower the overall look. I'd junk 'em.

yeah, but - these kits are aimed at the children that are the destination market for the Start Up range of start sets. As such they are priced to the market, and the features such as the lamps fit that market.

But I have heard good things about these kits, IIRC someone else on this forum had a set of them that they assembled with their teenagers, and it got them away from their electronic devices for much of a day.

I have the full set of these buildings, which I'm yet to find the time to assemble - I thought they might make a good addition to my planned town surrounding my Bonn station on my layout.

Yes, the lamps do look rubbish, but the buildings seem to be OK.

I quite agree. The buildings look remarkably good given their simplicity of assembly and price, and if you want streetlamps you could just use more authentic model ones--although they might end up costing more than the darned buildingsBigGrin
