Good evening fellow Marklin enthusiasts.
I am looking for advice. I have a Marklin 3395. The rear lights will not work when running in reverse. I have checked the decoder and discovered that a power transistor for the rear lights has burned out and also damaged the circuitry. I am considering fitting a high efficiency conversion kit + new decoder. Can anyone recommend the correct kit?
Also the cab (which is made of plastic was cracked when I bought it. Does anyone know where I might get a cab? The Marklin parts list only lists the complete boiler and cab for a price that is more than the locomotive is worth.
Looking forward to your replies.
John

Hello John,
After having a look at the part list, the high efficiency conversion motor kit for the 3395 is Marklin number 60941 (DCM kit).
For the decoder, it depends on your habits when converting, so it is up to you... Personally, I would recommend ESU M4 decoder, like the 64610 (no sound) + ESU 51950 (8 pin cable). Other people may recommend other decoders...
One last word: the light bulbs currently installed are 610040. When upgrading to digital, it is advised to replace them with 610080 (19V, 22mA), but spare parts at Marklin are a bit expensive... However, with an ESU decoder, you can use the dimmable function and thus decrease the lighting of the 610040.
have fun Fabrice

Hello, yes that is the motor parts kit. And for the decoder, it depends of many personal factors as stated. one option maybe a 60760 kit, it brings DCM engine parts and a very basic decoder. In the case of using more advanced decoders ( sound and/or mfx ) i would also go for ESU, but i have not yet tried the new M decoders, so they might be an option. A good thing is not to use wired decoders but install a 21 MTC platine ( available from ESU or Maerkln ) thus you can easily swap decoders in the future. With Marklin decoders you can also dimm and effects to your functions... Regards |
German trains era I-II and selected III, era depends on the mood, mostly Maerklin but i can be heretic if needed XD, heresy is no longer an issue.. LOL |

Thank you both for your advice.
I probably will fit a 60941 kit with a 60760. I actually have a 60760 decoder which is new and was given to me by a friend. He also gave me a selection magnets and 5 pole ankers. The shaft diameter on all of the ankers is too big for the bearing in the 3395. The 60941 should solve that problem.
regards,
John
