Hi All
I am planning on going to the Marklin Open days in September, but am having great difficulty in finding any info about the events, schedules, special bus timetables. marklin site only has a one page poster.

Does anybody have a link that will give this kind of information. (German or English or any language)

Thanks

Tim

There won't be much more info until maybe a month before the event, if past years are anything to go by.

As far as the busses between the venues, these run continously throughout each day, roughly 5 minutes apart on a fixed route. You can go between any venue (except the factory visit) on them by just staying on the bus long enough until you reach the venue you want. This includes the railway station and the Leonard Weiss maintenance facility.

I thought I had a PDf of the brochure from past ones, but cannot find it at the minute.

Planning on heading there too. Anyone been to Germany before? If so any tips or places to visit, layouts etc?
Cheers
Justin

Also, do we need our club cards to get the annual car?

One does not need a club card to purchase the Treff car. A car is included free in a Club membership. Also a club membership will entitle you to a discount to Treff entry.

Many of us have been to Germany before. There are a lot of threads on this!

A very broad question, and as Mr. Marklin says much discussed in many threads here.
Hamburg is the home to Modelworld, often billed as the largest model train layout in the world. I believe Berlin also has a large layout. The Porsche "Traumwerk" layout is in Germany, though I believe Salzburg Austria is the closest city. Fribourg in Switzerland has the "Kaiserberg" layout which is very good.

For train spotting the Gothard pass at Wassen has been a popular and beautiful trainspotter location. One of my favourites is the Brenner pass between Austria and Italy. The locomotives are switched from Austrian to Italian. There are some fascinating switching operations.

A lovely train trip is the Arlberg run from Innsbruck to Zurich.

I understand Berlin Loxx is now closed and is in fact up for sale if anyone would like a layout of Berlin in their attic.
Don't look back, your not heading that way.

Hamburg is also home to a large Gauge One layout which is housed at the Hamburg Musuem.

Indeed, many threads and discussions here. And I am completely surprised which distances some people wants to travel within only a couple of days. Probably I would think about it in a similar way and actually I did it already too. But ….

Of course you may go to Hamburg MiWuLa (= MiniaturWunderLand),
http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/
http://www.hamburg-touri...Dj5JmF4tQCFWko0wodiXULSw

but Hamburg is about 700 km away from Goeppingen. OK, by plane 1 hr 20 min flight, by car 7,5 hrs and even by train 6,5 hrs travel time (the train is so fast because it uses longer distances of Germany's high speed train system). Yes I have been at MiWuLa and it is worthwhile to go there, no doubt about it. They also offer special tourist packages on their homepage, but ...

But almost no interesting sightseeing points were mentioned nearby (300 km circuit) to Goeppingen, ok perhaps the Wies'n (= Oktoberfest - http://www.oktoberfest2017.de/) in Munich ( http://www.muenchen.de/int/en.html)

Here only some thoughts and hints for a visit of a railway enthusiast closer to Goeppingen.

I gathered a few links and list them here, but please help yourself.

Bavarian railroad museum Noerdlingen
http://www.bayerisches-eisenbahnmuseum.de/

Bahnpark Augsburg
http://www.bahnpark-augsburg.de/

Steam Dinner in Augsburg on Youtube

or Blue Star Train
http://www.blue-star-train.de/tee-ausstellung.html

Deutsches Museum München – Modelleisenbahn
http://www.deutsches-mus...ilitaet-technik/#c115884

Model railroads
http://www.miniland.de/

of course Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk
http://www.hanspeterporsche.com/

and here a list from Wikipedia about all public model railroad layouts in Germany and Bavaria. Please do not switch to the English language, because it is not a translation, it is a different site.
https://de.wikipedia.org...r_Modelleisenbahnanlagen

and a Youtube video about their model railway

shops for model railroader in Munich (no recommendation and not complet, just infos where you may buy your Oktoberfest Maerklin wagon)
http://www.modellbahncentrum.de/
http://gleis-11.de/
https://www.maerklin-store-muenchen.com/shop/

If you visit Hans-Peter Porsches Dream work than you should consider to make a tour to the close city Berchtesgaden and the lake Königssee and the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagles Nest)
http://www.kehlsteinhaus.de/en/index.php
https://www.berchtesgadener-land.com/en/home
http://www.muenchen.de/i...ons/lake-koenigssee.html

and then of course Salzburg, the home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, only 20 (yes twenty not two hundred) kilometres away from HP Dream Work.
https://www.salzburg.info/en

Ok – one recommendation I will do. Switzerland for a railroad enthusiast, you need 2 weeks minimum and every day is worthwhile of this visit, no doubt about it. But for those who only have one day to visit a railroad in the mountains, I recommend a trip from Munich by the train on top to the highest mountain of Germany, the Zugspitze, 2962 meters high.

It is possible doing it as a one day round trip from Munich to top of Germany and back. You take a train in Munich, switch in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to another train, which leads you up directly to the Zugspitzplatt, 2588 m high. There you switch to a cable car which brings you on top of the mountain and the restaurant there or to the tunnel which you can pass with a short walk to Austria https://www.zugspitze.at/en/
and back, because there is the border to Austria too.

Please read here by yourself:
http://www.muenchen.de/i...tractions/zugspitze.html
http://zugspitze.de/en/summer
https://en.wikipedia.org...varian_Zugspitze_Railway

I have done this trip by myself twice and it is not a cheap trip but a gorgeous one. An easy, relaxing trip by train in one day from Munich on top of an almost 3000 meters high mountain and back. A must for every railway fan, I think. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is about 90 km away from Munich.

Finally and just for info and special interests and it has nothing to do with a railroad.

In Munich is the worldwide headquater of BMW located with its own BMW world.
http://www.bmw-welt.com/en/

Right beside the area where the Olympic Games took place in 1974. So you also may visit the Olympic tower, the Olympic Tent, and Olympia Park there.

Happy reading

I saw with some amusement that you are surprised at the distances suggested for travel in Germany. I think this is a North American problem.

By and large scenery is not as varied here as in Europe, unless you go a great distance. If I want to go to the mountains from my home, I have about 4000 km to get to them, to the Rockies in Alberta. My summer cottage is 1600 KM from my home, I grant that is a lot, even for Canada. When North Americans go to Europe, unfortunately, they carry this idea that if they do not go a long distance they have "not seen anything". You are right. In Europe we should slow down, and admire where we are.

Thank you for some very good suggestions.

You are right - which one shall we use? This one

or the one right here?

And close this one

from 2015?

Well, I am aware about this. But I only want to show you and others from all over the world coming to Germany to attend the IMA days 2017 in Goeppingen, a list with a few addresses for points of interest for railway fans, closer to Maerklin's home than about a 7 hour one way train ride (including the general delays at the German railway DB AG BigGrin).

Just today I received a new address only 16 km away from Hans-Peter Porsches Traumwerk

http://www.hanspeterporsche.com/

the Lokwelt in Freilassing.

https://lokwelt.freilassing.de/lokwelt/start/

There you find a real BR 103-167-3, almost a huge copy of the actual insider modelLove .

Today I received a new "Maerklin WebNews" mail.

The mail contains a link to the first issued flyer for the 11. Maerklin days and 34th "International Model Railway Exhibition" (IMA = Internationale-Modellbahn-Ausstellung) Goeppingen.

https://www.maerklin.de/...ebnis/maerklintage-2017/

The English homepage link is not yet functioning. There is still the information about the IMA 2015.

Hello,

what a nice Saturday! Today - July, 29th !! - I received my next insider package for August/September! Flapper

Surprise: a flyer was added for a vintage special trip with the Rheingold from Duesseldorf to Goeppingen and back in one day on September, 16th. I scanned the flyer - find it here, please:

No surprise: a long and detailed article for the upcoming event IMA days 2017 are inside. No fear, I did not scan it completely. Only the 4 most important pages for those, who are planning to attend the IMA days 2017. Please find the file here:

Anyway, you find the list of exhibitors on Maerklins homepage already, but only at the GERMAN one!

https://www.maerklin.de/...bnis/maerklin-tage-2017/

For myself the Rheingold historic trip is very interesting. But unfortunately for this day, it is not on my way to Goeppingen.

By the schedule, the train must stay for 4,5 hours in the cental station in Goeppingen. Perhaps I get a chance for a visit inside of this train and loco, because just both I bought in beige/blue from Maerklin.

https://www.maerklin.de/...te/details/article/30390
https://www.maerklin.de/...te/details/article/40850

From my younger days (I guess it must have been in 1968 or 1969), I still have this train (it was only in tin plate available at that time) in beige/red with an E 03 002 too. Yes, both together looking quite nice.BigGrin

Oh, I am very well aware about your distances in America. Once I made by car, just a trip from New York City, NY downstate to Buffalo, NY upstate and vv.BigGrin

I needed 3 days for this round trip! Well ok, I also visited Fort Eire and - of course - the highlight Niagara Falls.BigGrin

FYI for anyone in the USA (and possibly elsewhere):

The DB website www.germanrailpasses.com is holding a sale with 20% off select passes. If you plan to use a railpass for your visit to the Marklin Days event (and maybe make the trip to Hamburg for MiWuLa) then kudos for waiting.
