Now that's one "everything goes" layout where continent and era don't matter. With that much track and that many levels how does he get access to the middle?

Tows the camera car with an identical loco, then multi-heads them on the controller. That way they do the same speed. I did quite like that footage, a bit different to the usual push the camera car with the loco. I did wonder about the artwork on the wall, not the multicoloured one, the 'line drawing' ...

I'd love to see the track plan. Huge number of switches. There are little white markers next to them which I assume is the switch number. Some are in the 160 range.

I love it! But then of course it is very similar to a layout concept that I have been considering. I am not one to go by convention but to figure out my best personal solution on my own, so my layouts tend to be unique. This layout has some monumentally cool features from my perspective. Like the layout that I am considering, it packs the most running track and the most space for staging trains into the smallest physical space.You can only really do that if you don't worrying about having realistic scenery. I want maximal lines over multiple levels so that my trains can stretch their legs. On my layouts the trains are the stars and scenery is just a backdrop or not even needed. I also want lots of yards so that as many as possible of my beautiful trains can be out there and available at all times. Making a tiny model of the world is a beautiful pursuit but it is not mine. I also admire the way that it can be stored away overhead, which is ingenious. Thank You Goofy for showing us all this special layout.  Edited by user 11 August 2017 01:00:11(UTC)

I love this guy's layout, there is something "urban" about it, 6 levels, hanging from the ceiling. It is not about an epoch, it is about having fun with one's collection. There are 2 videos: Enjoy.

Seeing this has inspired me. I like the play aspect of this hobby and I have been pondering how to achieve a mountain railway without loosing sight of 70% of my track because it is hidden in tunnels or behind hills. Looks like I build a skeleton, then build the scenery in such a way that I can remove sections for visibility, access and my pleasure.
Yes at one point, I felt I was on a roller coaster when the camera was in the front. I like the sweeping larger curves with that new track. I'm an M track fan so I guess I have to put up with the sharper 5200 curves.

Hi all, I enjoyed watching the video. You can't build a layout like that without having built many layouts before. It's all in the planning. You have to plan all of the track before you lay the first piece of track. And it is not easy to get all of the gradients so smooth. So this was very planned. I also really admired the construction, and all of the bridges and highways. Neat wiring too along the edges. Yes, a rollercoaster, but an enjoyable "sit back and enjoy" rollercoaster. Regards, John
