Hi all,

In progress on digitalising an old Marklin Nohab with high performance motor (60944) and an Esu loksound decoder.

As per Esu manual on page 18 it specific mention not to install the chokes on the motor leads?

I have other second hand loco converted with Esu and they do have chokes installed?

Anyone knows why you should not install the chokes with an Esu decoder?

Good to know the page. But which manual?

On page 18 in the latest English manual on their site I find: "The two capacitors connected directly to the motor leads and the motor housing MUST be removed (also refer to Fig. 9 on the following page)."

Manual is "LokSound V4.0, 4. Edition, May 2012, P/N 51972, From firmware 4.6.".

But no instructions to remove the chokes.

Rule of thumb: if there are three capacitors, remove two of them. If there is just one capacitor, leave it where it is.
Regards
Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes that is the manual I was referring to.

In section above they call them anti inference capacitors?

That led me to believe they were talking about the chokes which I thought was also to limit electricity Interference?

I have never seen any loose capacitors in the Marklin motor conversion sets.

Is the capacitor that little oval shape yellow/orange thing just fitted straight into the brush plate? I have never seen two of those, isn't there normally just one, with each leg fitted to each motor lead?

Hi, they used to be three of those capacitors, one between the two motor leads, wich must remains and one between each lead and loco ground, IIRC, they must go.
