A very analogue question.
Years ago I remember seeing a sort of piano/keyboard for controlling M track turnouts. It was a board with pairs of simple flat metal pads on it and a wired wand which actuated each turnout when the pad was was touched.
Was this manufactured or was it a home build? It seemed so much better than lots of those little blue boxes, many of which have now warped and bent.
Even a picture might help, I reckon I could make my own quite easily.
Does anyone have the same memory or have I lost the plot?!

Mtchael,
I recall seeing this being done but no longer remember the details. I agree that it would not be difficult to construct but I do not see any advantage. The problem is that two wires would have to be run from each turnout to a plan of the layout. Except for the smallest of layouts, this would involve a lot of wire. I believe that it is more simple to run the wires to a switch box close to each turnout. Viessmann sells control boxes that I find superior to the Marklin " blue boxes" you mention

Tex,
I wasn't thinking of a layout 'map' with contacts in teh relevant place, as you say it would make a cat's cradle of the wiring. I was thinking more along the lines of a sort of keyboard, a bit like a Stylophone if anyone remembers what one of those was!
