I have installed some reed switches (M* and Vm*) on my C track. Locos and vehicles passing over them have a slight bump or wobble, not derailing serious but it doesn't seem right. Presumably wheels are snagging on the switch body.
Is this normal? Or am I perhaps not installing the switches carefully enough?
PS It is the same for M* or Roco locos and M* or Roco vehicles so it doesn't seem to be a wheel flange or size issue.

I have found the people are a bit too intent on making sure the wheel flanges are clear of the read switch.

In fact you are more likely to find that the pickup shoe , which dips bellow the rail height, is a more likely culprit - especially on curves with longer shoes.

In some case it is a skewed shoe that exacerbates the issue, which should be fixed anyway.
Sometimes, the older locos with sloppy gauging of their wheels will also mean the shoe strays further than expected.

Fair enough, but in this case wagons without PUKs do a little jiggle too, so it must be their wheels or something else that is snagging.

I too suffer from problems with the Marklin reed switches. I have tried to make them fit as exactly as possible. Problems tend to occur at slower speeds and with smaller locomotives. I find that my railbus is most prevalent as it is very low down. Marklin, in their documentation do actually acknowledge this problem with the railbus. I am afraid that the only workaround is to drive the locomotives slightly faster towards the reed switch, so that it gets over it. Alan.
