I have the Ae 6/6 Mfx from the set #29851. All of a sudden this lox has given me a problem. All the functions (lights whistle etc) all function perfectly except the engine will not move. Can anybody help with a suggestion? (I have tried the Ae 6/6 on a different layout with the same results ...all functions work but the lox will not move)
Thank you

I have the same model. I don't know if it came from a 29850 or 29851 set. It is a very nice model. There could be several reasons why the motor will not move, ranging from a disconnected wire to a seized up motor.

First test, what happens when you test the locomotive using an analog transformer? Does the motor work?

Next test, remove the shell and inspect the decoder and the wires leading from the decoder to the motor. Look for broken or damaged wires. Repair as needed.

Your locomotive comes with an OEM ESU decoder. If you have a similar one (a Lokpilot or Loksound) with the same connector, you can swap the decoder to see if this solves your issue.
If you have an ESU Lokprogrammer, you can save the profile of the original decoder to your computer and then copy it to the replacement decoder.\

If the motor is gummed up, you will have to clean it or have the locomotive serviced. The German term for this is verharzt, meaning the oil has hardened.
If you serviced the locomotive, it may also be possible that you applied too much oil or that the brushes need to be cleaned.

If you let me know where you are, I can possibly direct you to some helpful resources.

Regards

Mike C

The first thing I would look at would have to be the motor brushes. They may be worn down to the point that they don't press against the commutator hard enough.

I remember clearly when that set came out. It was in the very early days of MfX.
These decoders were troublesome and I saw **quite a number of them** pass through my shop for repair.
Chances are (unfortunately) that the decoder is fried.
MikeC's suggestion is most probably the right one, but changing brushes and checking for a locked motor is never a bad idea before going through the expenses of a new and improved decoder.
Cheers

Strange - this model was one of my early digital locos and has been running on my "test oval" for ages. It seems to be an indestructible and reliable workhorse (like the older HAG's).

How long have you had the set?

Thank you everyone for such prompt and insightful responses I have (based on MikeC's & Ray's suggestion)
(1) ran on analog ..lights came on etc but it will not move
(2) took off the shell ..all wires are intact
(3) tried turning the geared wheels by hand ..they would not budge
(4) oiled the wheels (from below)
A bit of background ..since I bought the Swiss megaset about 8-9 years ago I have used the Ae 6/6 very very sparingly. The entire layout (and all loxes) went into major disuse the last three years. Recently at the start of this year I reactivated the layout and in order to 'clean' some of the unreachable M-tracks I used the Ae 6/6 to go over and over the circuit (30 plus rounds) until it suddenly decided not to move. Here's the blush part ..I have never ever serviced it.
My layout is in Singapore and I doubt there are any service locations anywhere around.
Any further suggestions will be gratefully received

Check your decoder carefully to see any burn out or fried on any number of small box etc on decoder circuit board?

Tom,

There are two Marklin authorized dealers in Singapore - Thrilling Toyz and Beem Tragel. I use Thrilling Toyz quite regularly and he is great! I am sure he should be able to help you out. Peter from Beem Tragel is normally not in Singapore but he is quite helpful as well.

Hopefully you find a quick solution :)

Cheers

Thank you Chrisisrang for the shop info and Steventrain on looking at the decoder (haven't spotted anything yet)
