I want to build an old-style glass-roofed train shed for multiple tracks as part of a station.
Kits I have seen include Faller 12180 and 12189, and Kibri 39565 and 39568.
Does anyone have experience or comments on these kits or any other similar models? |

I had a two section Bonn train shed, Kibri 9522, in a previous layout about 20 years ago and found it caused more problems than it was worth. One problem was of my own making. It was installed as a stub end terminal and passenger cars often derailed backing in and there was no way to get them back on the track other than lifting the train shed off of it. It was difficult to construct and flimsy to handle. I have a high regard for Kibri products and this kit was an exception. Perhaps the newer models are better. Tex

I have two Kibri 39565 set end to end. I put led's in it and on night runs love it.  Bob

It's always a good idea to make structures like this removable. Trains will always derail or stall where you can't get to them!  If you stop locos under the roof you will also find that you get dead spots on the track that need cleaning, which is another good reason to be able to remove it easily. Years ago I made an overall roof out of a couple of Airfix "platform canopy" kits. I believe these are still made by Dapol. They can be positioned end to end and side by side, making a relatively cheap way to cover your station over. Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

I had just assumed that these canopy roofs on station kits would simply lift off, but maybe I was too sanguine. Jabez PS Dapol was a new one on me. If you have the space the following is an interesting option from Joswood. It is 48 cm wide and this allows 3 platforms and up to 6 tracks underneath. You will also need to think about balancing the height with other buildings. It is 26 cm tall which is why I added some taller buildings around mine. A great kit.

Jabez It is Leipzig station. Joswood is also slowly building the buildings around the sheds as well. I have a place marked out for one of them. Interestingly enough, they are actually Laser cut cardboard/paper. It is the first time I had worked with that and it is very effective.
