Hi everyone, Since we are all a little anxious about world events at present, I wondered if some really silly model railway fun could help. Well Wagon: Another Well Wagon: Banana Wagon: Apple Wagon: Gondola Wagon: Another Gondola Wagon: Self evident; ( mixed language humour?) OK all you boys at heart, let's see some humour. Cheers, Howard.

I could make a "flat wagon", using my sledgehammer; but you have to imagine the picture, since I won't do it Regarding a "dump wagon"; don't even try to imagine the picture A "hopper" could be any type of wagon running on square wheels Per. |

Going to "The Dump" was a big event for my sister and I as we saw Dad load up the rubbish (old broken chairs, toys etc- not normal bin rubbish) onto the trailer and would take the long drive to The Gap Dump.. (Yes there is a suburb in Brisbane named The Gap and it had a Dump).. We were never allow out of the car at The Dump as is was too dangerous for small children.. Dad was always reminded by the Angry Man, who would shout, "Them Kids say in the car!".. It was amazing the cool stuff that was dropped off at the Dump.. Decades later that Dump is now a sports field. Now days we have "Waste Transfer Stations".. The Angry man lost his job, but the kids still have to stay in the car (Miss 1 - 15) while Dad and Mum throw the broken dreams into the concrete trough.. Not the same any more.. |

I remember the same trip to the dump was I was a kid... and there too was an angry man there... that landfill is now a housing division, I wonder if the people know that the bedrock isn't really rock, it's literally rubbish! |

I remember "the dump"well but in my age group it was the Kalinga dump and my mate and I literally crawled all over it and found the most amazing things. It started me on my interest on small electrical and mechanical things.( clocks, wind up phonographs, stereos, hand generator telephones etc). We would ride there on our bikes and keep an eye out for the guy in "the shed"but he rarely appeared. I wonder though if Per had a more American gastrointestinal event in mind? Cheers, Howard.

Same for me - I think that the angry man is required by law at every dumping site! Our dump is now a regional high school - pretty appropriate considering the state of public education here in the US. Thanks for this thread - I am enjoying it very much. The whole world needs something positive to focus on right now, since the state of the world is pretty ugly. |

Jim
I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!

I know it is only Monday, and the brain has struggled to get off to a start. But here goes with a tipping hopper wagon. The poor animal has lost its tail. Not bad considering it was made in Western Germany sometime after WWII, runs on clockwork, and actually hops. The tail was orginally rubber, so probably not hard to replace. regards Kimball |
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge. |

Hi Howard, the one on the top is an all-natural Cavendish banana wagon with realistic weathering. The other one is an Official Marklin Product™.
As for Dereck's wagon, I thought it was supposed to be a tube train. |

Thank God! Correct, I should have noted your interests! Could have been a Norton exhaust pipe I guess. Do you play the pipes as well as model railway? Hope you have wiiiiide radius curves on that layout. That photo is some years old or the calendar on the wall has a very interesting photo on it! Thanks for the fun, Regards, Howard.

Hi Howard. That calendar is from 2001 and is One given out by Bareco, a company who sell tractor spares in NZ. It shows a Massey Ferguson tractor and an old Vanguard s/w from the 50's. I nice picture printed on a wooden blind. That pipe is a base drone from an old set of bagpipes, but not as old or as good as the ones I play. Been playing for 53 years and have quite a few NZ and Aussie National Pipe Band grade 1 titles under my belt. Your Queensland Irish Pipe Band in those years were our main competition. I have had Norton Commandos for 44 years. Sailing for 30 odd years. Running HHH for 40 odd years. Pipe band was the one thing that got me round the world and probably kept me a bit broke, so never went wild on Marklin apart from every 20 years or so of temporary insanity. Most importantly though, married for 36 years. [ and she still puts up with me ]. All the best.

Congrats on your achievements and interesting pursuits Dereck. I remember Vanguards well from the fifties. I also remember seeing a Norton clean up the field in a race at Lakeside even after stalling at the start! I have never really yet been able to discern the hold Marklin and collecting specific old railway models has over me, but at least from the forum I realise I am not alone in this! Thanks for joining in and enjoy your long weekend. Regards, Howard.
