I need a Christmas train set to bring out and run on the carpets... looks like this is a good starting point. When are these sorts of things typically available for preorder on LokShop.de or via US side dealers?

Bummer,
While not totally unexpected, and there may still be future workarounds, the table on page 11 is signalling that fact that there are limitations with a CS2 being able to access more than 16 functions.

I guess you could order it right now, given that it is now an officially announced item. Actual delivery time might change, check the delivery schedules on the Marklin website for that info.
As KiwiAlan mentioned there is actually two Christmas locos, an H0 one and a G1.
H0 is 469.99 EUR, G1 version is 2699.99 EUR. I suspect Marklin have taken unsold G1 Br38's and plonked a Christmas tree on the front of it and programmed some extra tunes, but if you've got the dosh, why not!

Send an email to Lokshop if they haven't already put it on their website. I have done that for items that haven't even appeared on their website and been successful in the past.

I am definitely going to go for the Swiss Wascosa Postal cars. It would be nice if they would expand the set to 5 or 6 cars.
For the interim, I will plan on running the 3 cars with a few of the Liliput AAE Container cars.
I guess that this consist will be pulled by one of my Cargo Re 6/6 (620).

Got to say I am very disappointed by this offering, generally too many reissues of past items. I can think of better things to spend €uros 999 than another Orient Express set.
So far I have bought nothing new from Marklin this year and I am not sure this will change anytime soon.
I agree with you!
An typical reason why Märklin save money and repeat some models.
Orient wagons before was limited and yet Märklin produce once more again Orient wagons era 1!
From the Trix they offer only wagon set and no locomotive for the two rail!??

I suppose cooperative means to say that Tillig are making it and putting the Marklin logo on and/or Marklin putting the logo on the box.
So in fact you are buying a Tillig product,oh well.....
Think the same happened with the Marklin Harry Potter train, must have been made by Hornby and M put their logo on.
Whilst the Tillig product may be safe and sound,it should not be sold as a Marklin product really, but that is just my opinion.

Funny. When it looked like they had sold out early, the east coast dealer here in the US had it on eBay for $699.

Era 3
DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe
But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.

37899 mean 2016 Loco.
The 37838 was 2015 loco and not found on Bwbahn.

Correct Stephen, my mistake. Apparently it is some of the new Herbst items offered at discount, and that is for pre-orders.

Soon adds up if one doesn't watch it ...

The picture seems to imply that there are lights on the Christmas Tree, but the ones I saw in shops didn't seem to have lights on them. And the G1 only has 'O Tannenbaum' tune, not the two tunes of this years HO loco.
