Hi, bought these 2 Hobby class Märklin SBB Re 482 electric locos and I'm in the process of converting several things.
a.) ESU sound decoder with ESU adapterplate 51968
b.) LED lights front & rear
c.) several Swiss light changes

1.) 3 white front 1 white rear
2.) 1 red markerlight
3.) 2 red markerlight
4.) headlights front or rear
5.) high beam front or rear

I also installed a pantograph contact from a homemade circuit board onto the screw which holds the pantograph and connected all 4 Pantographs.
the 2 locos in question are slightly different whether it was a design error or these locos were different at the side front (will show pictures and there you can see the difference).

each loco has 4 rubbertyres and are situated diagonally on both bogies., also the pantographs are a bit wobbly and I've tightened them so they can be used with my overhead system, they will run in a consist, either with Swiss or German type pantographs and the light configuration will correspond in which country they are traveling.

it will have mainly container wagons (Mehano) and later on container wagons from rocky rail

Are they both 36851 (482 011) or is one of them a 36606 (482 046)?
What was the total cost of the conversion per lok?

Regards

Mike, I can't reveal the total cost or price for certain components such as decoders or adapter plates.

it is more likely the time it took or takes and implementing the light configuration and I may use another adapter plate (ESU) to fulfill all its light functions.

as a ball point figure the circuitboard, smd resistors, smd led's (8), electrical connection to the pantographs (max A$ 4.00) labour cost could be as high as A$ 100.00 but funny enough I can't charge myself these labour costs. LOL

ESU Sound decoder and adapter plate = per ESU retail price list = Euro = 113.00

the conversion was more about the light configuration, a.) German and Swiss combined and I couldn't have done it with the current or original set up.
suggestions have been made there is a 21 pin circuit board (same set up with the led strip) available for this particular loco(s) and add a sound decoder (60947) but a.) it doesn't give you the flexibility to change the light configuration nor does it give you 4 Aux functions or indeed 10 unless you use a Zimo sound decoder which at this moment I can't program.

it could well be, there is already a loco with the appropriate circuit board and a suitable sound decoder on the market but I doubt they include all the light changes.

to buy these locos , they have been down marked as a special sale price, one I got from Switzerland (36851 and the other (36606) from a German dealer for Euro 92.00, so you could say each loco after its conversion costs me about Euro 200.00, one would have thought they are the same loco mold but the side front is slightly different, with other words you can't swap the housing with each loco unless you change the front buffer assembly as well, which I found out afterwards.

Hi, Ho

yesterday I've constructed the headlights with 5 smd led's (3528) they are all dual colours (white - red) unfortunately I don't have any warm white at the moment.

the concept is:

a.) to run the headlights under German rule
b.) to run the headlights under Swiss rules

outer head lights: right rear

1.) white, 2.( red.

both inner headlights:

1.) high beam white, 2.) 2 markerlights

both outer headlights: 1.) white, 2.) red (the left had red light has not been connected.

top third light: white.

I also have to figure out how I should determine the light changes when 2 locos are together or a loco is at the end.

some of you may think this is over the top but others do have other fetishes such as details, all metal and the investment port folio.

John

Hi John ,good call:-) I have a Marklin ECR 186 Traxx loco, I did have two, but I sold one to help pay for a Brawa 186. A bad move as it didn't go very well. In fact the Marklin cheep hobby loco out performed it? In running quality. The sound on the Brawa loco, was however a Zimo product and that had the best sound I've ever heard? Do you perhaps know the cat number for a Zimo decoder for the bombardier Traxx 186?

I'm not familiar with Zimo decoders although I've always had good reports, have a look on their website www.zimo.at and go to sound decoders , has Brawa changed to Zimo decoders as well ? they used to use ESU like Roco.

Hi John, I'm not sure for how long, but the Brawa loco I had, definitely had a Zimobdecoder complete with a card to load it onto your MS2?
Are the Marklin Traxx decoders any good?

I don't use Märklin decoders at all.

Hi, I've almost finished the 2 loco conversions, 2 loco sound decoders, and the German version has 3 head lights, 2 high beam, 2 marker lights, programmed them to the same speed and other configurations.

all I need now is try them out on my layout with 30 container cars.

Hi John, that looks great!
Could you comment on how you mapped the function for the various lights?
Are the lights switched off at one side when 2 locos are in a consist?
I'm still contemplating how to incorporate SBB/DB/high beam/consist light configuration with a standard decoder without additional electronics.

Bart, fortunately or unfortunately I'm talking about ESU sound decoders and the mapping is done with a lokprogrammer.

I've ordered 51968 adapter plates (new version with 6 Aux functions and 2 light functions (F0).

you also have the right led's for the job, dual colour white-red.

when you've got all this you than can start programming. all light configurations or 99% of it can be individual activated.

for instance the headlights (3 or 2 ) you than configure the single white light in the back (Swiss configuration) you need some diodes to control the lights.
1 outer red light (front & rear) = 2 x Aux, 2 outer red lights front & rear (diodes) = 2 x Aux, 2 inner white led's (high beam = front & rear) = 2 x Aux,

if you run the locos in a consist, again this can be programmed with a lokprogrammer by turning on and turning off certain light configurations.

I should have used the next adapter plate No 51970 with 10 Aux functions, to be able to configure all possibilities.

Thanks!
Indeed, with 6 physical AUX outputs it is doable.
This also enables you to keep both sides of the loco separated in terms of separate AUX outputs and wiring (unlike the conventional grey/yellow wiring), so that you can use logical functions to switch off one cab. Great job.
