1409 looks like a rather new Sprint set, not from the '60's but probably end of seventies. I have some Sprint from before 1970 but that has older cars than the ones in 1409.
1409 is selling at Ebay at some € 50, being presented as 30 years old (probably right).

Hi Magnus,

The 1409 appeared in 1969 and was offered until 1979. The earlier sets contained two "cigar"-like cars, later sets came with two more modern sport-prototypes (Le Mans-type).

These starter-sets are not rare unless in a mint and never used condition with an also very fresh box. For the average played condition Henk gave a good hint on the value.

Thank you all,
A mint and never used condition with a superb box, what is it worth?
The story is this that a friend of mine has one of those, never touched actually, with the two modern sport-prototypes. He bought it new a couple of years ago (think it was 3-4 years ago) from an old dealer (he's father started their toyshop in 1927 and this where never sold among other things, this store were a goldmine)... and the story goes on with the fact that my friend has been approached with an offer to buy this set.. which is a reasonable price?

Hi Magnus,
It is also interesting if the cars have a plastic 'ritzel' (sprocket) or a metal (messing) one. The plastic ones tend to decompose even if not used. I'm reffering to the one attached to the motor-axle.
If it's a plastic ritzel, the cars probably need a motor overhaul.
Look for some 1409 on Ebay for price references.
Regards, Henk.
