Why is this 3 way point unique in that it still uses the old integrated turnout motors? Need one and am not that upset given the trials and tribulations of the 74491.

It hasnt been updated or "modernized". It works well, and will last forever.
(Another thing is that this symmetric 3-way swtich are not too practical, because you can run into problems whyen trying to split the frogs up, running against the actual setting...)
