Marklin fans,
I bought this set ICE set 29791, I want to replace the existing couplers for the passenger cars in this set.
As I dont like the Loco which came in the set, I want to pull these cars using other locos (like 37321) I have with the close couplers. Between the passenger cars themselves I dont want to do anything.

Can somebody guide me in changing the couplers?

Thanks
VJ

VJ,

the ICE train, like the TGV or other high speed trains, are designed to be used as a consist. These cars would not be found behind another locomotive, unless it was for a special reason, like was the case when an ICE train collided with BLS locomotives. The ICE train, minus the damaged power unit, was towed back to Germany by a Swiss locomotive. The damaged power unit was separately transported back to Germany for repairs.

If you want a nice train for the 37321 SBB Cargo Re 620, I would suggest Roco's new post cars (76200/76202) or perhaps a consist of container cars.

Regards

Hello VJ!

I totally agree with Mike, but if you go forward with this project I think you need something like the links below.

Most important is to be aware that, since ICEs uses a 'unique' kind of couplers for each model (ICE1/2/3), you need to verify if those couplers fits inside the wagons. You will also need the closed/loop couplers.

VJ,

I don't think this is the way to go. You will end up with a cludge which is neither prototypical not practical even if you do solve the problem of incompatible couplers.

Buy some nice IC coaches for your loco (such as 40500 etc) if this is the kind of train you want to see. There will still be no basis in reality, but at least the couplings will match

Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.
