I draw the layout schema and set some colours to the different main routes. I make a small modification to avoid extra waiting for parallel routes at the west turnout section. Now we have one fly over and one double track crossing in this layout. Regards, Timaximus |

I start with the second ramp to the station level. I need to buy extra threaded ends so the ramp is still laying on the lower level tracks, unfortunately. Regards, Timaximus |

Today I finished the second ramp at the south side (the blue one). Tomorrow we will probably finish the final plate between the station level and the second ramp. What follows is test-driving and optimise ramps and tracks if possible/necessary. Regards, Timaximus |

Today we finished the rough building fase of the lay-out. The test trains are just running fine on the two last ramps, which can and will be optimised to 1:54 en 1:57. Now we have to look carefully while we test each train in our small collection on this lay-out. Regards, Timaximus |

I optimized the ramps and cut some wood from the beams to enlarge the drive through space for the trains. If you compare the two last photo’s form the ramps you can see the difference in height regulation, which is a few cm. Regards, Timaximus |

Tonight I start with laying the rubber under carpet. Therefore I remove the station level. In this section, with all the poles, I need to use small pieces of the rubber, unfortunately. But in the lay-out sections which are in sight there will be mostly larger parts of the rubber. Regards, Timaximus |

Tonight I finished phase one of the rubber adventure. Also the extra turn outs are placed, see front of picture, and some minor layout improvements were made and I replaced some smaller track pieces (fittings) by larger ones. I also salvaged some 10-12 year old wires for the new feedback sections. Regards, Timaximus |

Timaximus Hello Timaximus, I am very impressed that you have managed to incorporate both a turntable and a transfertable in your layout - looks great! Whilst my own layout has a turntable I would have dearly liked to have also included a transfertable but alas, not enough space. I watch you progress with interest, Regards, PJ

For this layout it was easy to place both the turn table and the transfer table, I just designed it with all the parts I have already in it. Which means with C-Track, all the Uhlenbrock stuff, the turn- and transfer table and so on.
And I don't need much space for scenery so I have a lot of space for tracks and track related items. And when I do not have enough floor space I will go into the ‘air’ as a layer based table.
Some design rules I keep myself on (after some lessons learned in the past): - It is not necessary to build realistic. - Don’t let environmental restrictions lead the design. So when something doesn’t fit well throw it away and start designing again. - Target on drive as much trains as possible within the available dimensions. - Keep it all easy reachable. Also keep your own physical condition over a longer timeline in mind.
Regards,
Timaximus

The connections between the feedback modules and the track sections from 'Booster Section 2' are finished. I wired all the stuff the classic way, which means that every feedback module has its own feeding wire from the Booster. And every track section has its own mass wire a side of the red feeding wire coming from the feedback module. The Power is forced by 7 transformers of 70VA, 4 for the Boosters and 2 for the IB's, from one is working as a IB-Control. The 7th transformer is reserve. After some testing I can continue with the station layer. I am also considering soldering the connectors to the C-Track after the tests. Regards, Timaximus |

Today we start with the ramps at the south side. The side of the ramps will be plated with bendable 'Powerplex'. The rubber under carpet takes some time and accuracy to place it nicely between the ramp sides. For cutting the rubber around the nuts I need to make a special cutting tool first. This afternoon I placed some ‘Powerplex’ to draw the cutting lines. Also the rest of the station level (ground) plating is placed. The 3,6mm Powerplex works fine and fast, and it’s easy to cut it with the Multitool in shape. Same counts for the 5mm Multiplex. I also make a small modification at the south-east side near the transfer table. The tunnel entrance starts within the station layer. The 6 tunnel entrances still needs some creativity. :) Regards, Timaximus |

95% of the electronics I am using now and in the past is from Uhlenbrock. Easy to use and reasonable priced. The threads work fine with adjustment. I did some fine tuning at the tunnel entrance near the transfer table yesterday. So plating the ramps does not mean the adjustment is final. I just stop adjusting when I am satisfied and the trains run smooth up and down. Even when it means I need to modify some plating after. Regards, Timaximus |

Today we finished the side plating of the ramps at the south side. Also some tunnel entrance frames are placed. Behind the ramps, window side, we don't get full plating because of the trains running under the ramps coming from the main tracks. Regards, Timaximus |

Today I finished the rubber on the station layer. So now I can start over with creating, connecting and soldering the feeding wires and testing the feedback contacts. Grandpa is also working very hard and is doing what he can do best, carpenting and close all the table sides and make doors for maintenance and train salvage after a tunnel crash. The rubber under carpet is almost gone so I need to order a new one, especially when also the shadow station is isolated with it. Regards, Timaximus |

Today I finished the feeding wires of the station level and the ramps at the south. After connecting the wires to the feedback contact a test period will follow. Also the last track pieces are placed around the turn table and the disconnectors inside the 2 inner station tracks. Grandpa is just going on with the carpenting as usual. Regards, Timaximus |

After a while I decide to clean the MRR room first. And remove some non MRR stuff first to make the MRR room more accessible. And today I decide to drive a clean train before running some trains for the 'Hobbit'. The result of the cleaning tour. The cleaning crew. The next step will be the rest of the tracé. Like the upper layer and the ramps to that level. Hope to place some rubber on the remaining sections and connect the final track sections to the feedback contacts soon. Maybe I add some parking tracks inside the large walking area along the edges of the table. Regards, Timaximus |

I planned an extension for 2017 to park some trains above the current table. Going down to a shadow station is no option because of accessibility issues after. So we go up into the air! The ramp will be 12m and go's up to +40cm above main track. A turning loop is also planned for extra train route variations. The first modification will be at the 'De 3-Sprong' planned for December. Modification on main track for planned extension. Overall image with extension on top.More details follows... Regards, Timaximus |

Between the hobby time with the model trains I also build some rail related items in scale 1:1. This time it is an alarm for in the gardenA real warning sign with bell and flashing lamps. I only need to paint the steel body of the pole and the lamps next year first. But the electronics works. Just for fun. TWL lamp and bellRegards, Timaximus |

I optimized the whole track plan in SCARM. But I am not planned to modify the current track layout on the table unless the impact is small and the performance will improve. So when only a few track pieces need to be replaced I probably will do. Below you will find the latest track layouts from SCARM (the images are a bit heavy because they need to be printed on a large paper size).Main track on layer 0 (66m)Station and depot area on layer 1(41m)Shunting area on layer 2 (35m)Ramps from main track to layer 1 (20m)Ramps from main track to layer 2 via connection on layer 1 (20m) Bridge tracé on layer 0 (18m)The second extra layer will be approx. 35-40 cm above main track. Some extra materials are already in stock. To build the new layer with a large shunting area. MDF 15mm for the area itself and 4mm MDF for the ramps. Both supported and stiffened with other wood. I allready make some little progress and waiting for the missing parts. As you can see I removed all (3) shunting tracks within the station area. Now the station area will be a stopping place for 1,5m max. length trains only. The shunting activities are moved to the large shunting area. Regards, Timaximus |

The new rubber under carpet arrived today so we do not have to measure every inch exactly anymore. But first we use the remains of the old rubber. The tracks are back of the table again and now with the rubber carpet under it. Past two weekends 'The scenery man' is working on the upper layer of the table. All ramps will be closed with Triplex and or MDF plates 4 - 6 mm thick. We will put some decorative material after when the rough materials are finished I did some cable management under the table and place the layout into Win-Digipet 9.2. Which is a very old version. But it still works on that prehistoric HP Omnibook XE3. Amazed the old laptop still works, only XP won’t work anymore with any network or internet since the support stopped. Hopefully I can run a couple of trains over the layout soon. Next weekend we planned some reinforcements at the table structure. Old Win-Digipet 9.2 layout on that tiny laptop. Regards, Timaximus |

Past weekend we finished the plating around the table. And also the support plate for the shunting area above this base is already mounted (at background 1e image). I did some test driving over the layout. And no real serious trouble occur during these tests. So we can thinking about the next layer, the shunting area. Of course some fine-tuning in train movement needs to be done later on. Under the table I place 4mm MDf plates to project te wiring from pulling down accidentally by me or the little 'Hobbit'. Probably not visible, but we also extended the station area a bit at door side. The table surrounding plates finished The little 'Hobbit' Protection plates under the tableI also start a small project for extra interaction with computer control. So that I and my son can act during the driving. It is the old switch-panel form 10 years ago. Which will be updated with some green LEDS later on. The old switch-panelI make some videos about the test rides. Regards, Timaximus |

Looks great, Timaximus! What kind if rubber are you using, and where do you buy it? Is it easy to cut? (using a pair of scissors?) |

The rubber is Royale 550.
It is easy to cut with scissors.
It demps a lot.
You buy it at the carpet store or via internet.

These days I finished the shunting level construction. I cut the rubber and cut the end of the panel to make it consistent with the ramp at the south side. As you can see 7 tracks can lay on the surface side by side easily. Now we can start with the helix and the connection at level 0. I found the old poles form the 2007 table. An old steel wire fence with brass poles and the 'concrete' plates are also in the bag. I also updated the layout so that trains can pass by if they have more priority than the other. For that I use the curved turn-outs. The cross turn-outs can be moved to the right or left so the length of the tracks can be modified as required. Regards, Timaximus |

Today i finished the helix base. The next step will be fixing and tuning the connections. After that I am thinking about a plastic profile around the helix at the outer and inner side for a better look. I am not sure yet if I will use the rubber under carpet or something else for the helix. Regards, Timaximus |

I draw a few more variants for the possible tracé at the shunting layer. The first is the most advanced with extra shunting possibilities and two way drive over the loop. The other two are more basic variants with and without the pass by tracks inside the loop. Because of the large investment the basic variant without the pass by tracks inside the loop is the most possible variant we will build this year before the summer stop. The station layer wil get 2 extra shunting tracks for the extra train movement from above. Regards, Timaximus |

Today we finished the Helix structure and start with the decorative parts to make the Helix more attractive. The PVC tube are placed around the sharp M8 threads and the PVC u-profile are fixed with Bison fixing sealant along the sawed edge of the curved Triplex segments. Next week we hope to place the Helix inside the table and make the connection to layer 0. Regards, Timaximus |

I installed the green LED into the old switch box above the red LED. Now I can see which switch is activated and in which position by LED indication. I will combine these signals with the other switch box with 30 push buttons. This way we get approx. 1.7 million switch combinations to activate train routes or other MRR actions. The blue wires are the + with resistor and the grey are the minus for the LED. The red wire are the MASS signals from the switches to the 3-Rail Feedback decoder. Regards, Timaximus |

I programmed the Uhlenbrock Switch decoder. Now the old 'updated' switch panel is ready for use. I also make a smal modification in the track plan. The curved turn-outs are now conform the Marklin catalogue. Now the track geometry fits better. The minimum variant below (picture 3) is what we like to build this winter. Regards, Timaximus |

This weekend we finished the Helix. It became a monster object because of the size. We need to dismantle the Helix in the workshop and build it up again in the train room. Otherwise it won’t fit along the stairs. The frame will be stabilised and get some wheels under it. Regards, Timaximus |

Today we build the two connections to and from the Helix. So the Helix structure itself is finished. I also updated the track plan in Win-Digipet 9.2. Probably we will get only one long shunting track on the top layer for a while because of all the new materials we need to invest in first.
The following period we will continue with the detailing of the layout and table structure. Regards, Timaximus Edited by user 30 January 2017 10:06:23(UTC)

I have to change the final plan a bit for the extra tracks inside the loop. Those extra tracks don't fit with the roof. So the new plan will be a bit different. I inserted the R4 and R5 back in and added two 64mm pieces between the cross turn-outs inside the shunting area to move the loop further to the window. Not really planned but with that we also get enough space between the tracks for 2 platforms. Regards, Timaximus |

Today we build the loop structure at the shunting level. Both sides will get a 4 cm wall to make the loop structure stiff and use it as a derail protection after that it is time to put some 'concrete' paint on it! :) And after the missing track parts, R5 and R4, inside the helix are placed and the last 2 turn-out are electrified we can continue with the automation and detailing the table further. The clamps you see are used to keep the track in the middle of the MDF strips during installation. Regards, Timaximus |

The helix has an open structure and keep this way.
It is nice to see the trains running smooth on the helix up and down.
And the trains driving behind the helix are still visible through the open structure.

Now the summer stop is there we post the final pictures for this MRR winter. Its time to continue with the renovation of the house again. The rubber is now finished on the whole table surface. Also the track extension on the upper 'shunting' layer is powered and 'provisionally' automated with one feedback module. So when we continue with the wooden detailing next winter we are able to run. Regards, Timaximus |

This table will be modified and partly dismantled! The new table design will be build 'on the fly'. So no plans or drawings. It was very difficult to start the modification but this afternoon I started after a last round of the V200 and BR194. Regards, Timaximus |
