Hi,
Does anyone have experience with this loco? I have been considering this but came across a blog that said it was a really poor runner. Did he just have a bad copy?
Thanks |

I have a couple of V36 models. One is the CFL version and the other is the standard DB version. The mechanism is identical on both except that the CFL model was originally analogue and I converted it with a 60760 set.
My experience with both is that they run a bit rough and noisy, but reliably. I wouldn't define that as making a poor runner, but this could be what the blog refers to? |

The Märklin V36 can run very well, either with HLA drive: ... or with a Maxon Glockenanker drive: |

Thanks Hi, I have the 37364, and I've just tested it once again for you. It runs smoothly, and even in analogue mode, it can run at relatively low speeds, though the lights are hardly visible then. In digital mode, the lights are ok and my DSB 1 runs smoothly, even at low speeds. At full speed, it's a bit noisy, but definitely NOT a poor runner. It has an older fx (MM2) decoder that cannot be programmed, so you need to use the switches on the decoder to set the address. On the whole, I'd recommend it. It was even made in Germany! The guy who said that on a blog was probably too lazy to open the locomotive, disassemble the motor (which is really easy for this model), and clean it inside. Old oil can easily be removed with cotton earbuds and a little isopropyl alcohol. With a drop of oil on each bearing, it will then run smoothly, but how many people do that? I've bought a lot of second-hand Märklin locomotives on Ebay, but the vast majority of those I opened when I got them hadn't been serviced or oiled for years. Best regards, Mark |
Best regards, Mark
I like Märklin items produced in the 1960s or early '70s, but also digital locos & current rolling stock. |

Thanks for the advice. I will probably get one of those, seem good value for money.
Is it easy to for telex couplers on them? |

Is it easy to for telex couplers on them? It depends what you mean by easy. If the loco comes with NEM coupler pockets, or can be adapted to have them, then you can fit the newer type Marklin Telex couplers. You will need to identify a function output from the decoder capable of handling the load. If this is not possible you can swap the decoder for a more capable one with suitable function outputs. I just had a look at the exploded diagram for this loco and it shows that it does not have NEM coupler pockets. I also suspect that the decoder shown is an older type. You might have your work cut out for you! https://medienpdb.maerkl...es/1/pdf/37364_explo.pdf |

Not having telex is a show stopper, I'm afraid. What about the Roco V36 or ML6? Can they be fitted with Marklin telex couplers? And how is the build quality and running? |

None Danish :-( I have considered both the German V60 or the DB80, both can be had with telex, but neither really fits my Danish era IV |

For what its worth, I have several Telex equiped locos, but I find that a well placed uncoupling ramp is far more useful. With Telex you can only uncouple the loco from the rest of the train. To shunt a train you still need the uncoupler ramp to seperate the individual wagons. |

None Danish :-( Well, not entirely true. 37698 is danish and has telex couplers. But a small shunter it is not.
