Hi,

Few weeks ago a friend bought a second hand V60 shunter in a really shabby condition. The previous owner attempted weathering it but was not very succesful. Furthermore the paint was flaking and paint was missing in huge areas.

We decided that this loco was to be one spared for scrap so no maintenance done for a long time.

In this work I heavily used Noch weathering powder with Duplicolor flat varnish - this one is good for the job because it does not dry fast and holds the powder nicely.

Here are the before and after photos:

Weathering of the previous owner is not really nice ...

Let's not forget the windows; very light varnish gives the desired effect

Well,

What can I say David ... Smile

This week has been my week - doing a lot of work on the layout and some more.

After tomorrow I'm starting a new project at work so I might not find that much time for the trains [xx(]

Cheers,

Cem.

Looks like the loco was buried in the garden by the former owner's dog... I would not call that original work "weathering"...

You have, on the other hand, made it into a "badly maintained" loco which looks credible...

If it doesn't run well you could say that it's been so badly neglected that it doesn't run and just have it sit on a siding to be admired by all wink

Thank you everybody!

Once again it is good to hear that you liked it. Being the first loco weathering of mine and being a sort of success, I'm hoping to weather a number of locos soon. The first will be a Br185 (BLS cargo). Luckily I have many photos of all the 185's used by BLS Smile

Tony hi, yes I have applied a tiny bit of varnish to the windows - at the final touch-up stage.

Nev hi, the running gear is perfect, runs good but have an old decoder fitted so no load regulation.

Regards,

Cem.

Hi Cem.

OMG, the previous owner did a terrible job, you really must have had a hard time on this one. Do you have a picture of the prototype for your BR 361 weathering?

Best regards

Well done Cem,

You've managed to transform a typical attempt into what we like to see.
Keep it up!

Sören hi,

Thanks.

The hardest part was to decide if we were going to restore the model. If we were to restore, then it would have been much harder. The paint flakes gave me a good pattern to apply the rust effect.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any photos of prototypes in this shabby condition, but I have inspected as many prototype photos as I could - the links can be found in the "prototype" section.

I think photos of prototypes are of great help in weathering.
