Feliz Natal Walter and a Merry Christmas to all.
Beyond the mixed emotions, the ups and downs...and the potential tantrums, remember family, good friendship, good food and the greatest gift of all in the cradle.
Under our tree we have a paper nativity that doubles as a train stop. Fortunately its far more than a one stop deal.
Peace in 2016! - Mark

I got sent this by another forum member......
"I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my friends, but it is difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on his advice I wish to say the following: Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday practised with the most enjoyable... traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practise religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2016, but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that New Zealand is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee . By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher. Best Regards (without prejudice) Name withheld (Privacy Act)."

Merry Christmas and Happy New to everybody 2016 will bring some interesting adventures for me : 1) Early Retirement during March 2) A skiing holiday with my family in Austria (end of March) 3) Train travel to Germany (including 2 days in Goppingen) and Switzerland (April) I shall be visiting the "MATTERHORN" for the first time. As you all know, the Matterhorn is the central mountain on my last 3 layouts. So very exciting to be seeing the real thing. Regards, John

John,
Please enjoy the Matterhorn to the fullest! Take the tooth-rack train to the Gornergrat look-out point, with clear weather you have a fantastic view over the Matterhorn and surrounding peaks. There is a restaurant and terrace, where alpine crows try and steel your applepie, very funny. Also, there is a well assorted souvenirshop with classy Swiss made products, needless to say i bought a Swiss armyknife there! My wife bought a Swiss made Swatch watch showing the height of the Matterhorn, only sold there.
Zermatt and the Gornergrat trip do not come as a bargain but it was worth every penny!
Apart from anything else, there are Swiss trains everywhere! |

Merry Christmas to all from Jean and I as well. My Christmas haul is a bunch of books about Michael Portillos Great Train Journeys TV program series - along with a reproduction Bradshaws Continental Railway Journeys. Totals up to 5 books all round. Oh, and got myself a GPS to use in the car, had to do something to make more efficient use of travelling time to train events ... But the weather outside is horrible, good for putting feet up inside.
