Track Layout Software: Given the number of track as input, should suggest possible track plans

I've used Scarm and I have some basic usage knowledge of the track planning software. Is there any other railroad software which could accept the following input from the users and suggest possible track plans? - number of curves - number of turnouts -number of crossings -number of straights -Layout dimension Length*Width Regards, Madhu Edited by user 18 November 2015 11:57:21(UTC)

They only key search order for layouts that I know of, is for space used (Layout Dimensions).
For the rest of your limitations, you will have to manually eliminate plans that are not possible with your material.

the number of permutations would be so enormous you would not be able to page through all of them to find one you like. |

@Dale, I agree! I had high hopes that there will be some intelligence in the tool that would ask inputs like size of the layout, gradient, levels and suggest "here are the recommended layouts for you" :)
@Ausipeet, thank you for the excel sheet. As you rightly mentioned, it is an inventory tracking solution for M track and not a track planning solution. I would modify this for my C track needs and share with you all the updated excel.

Hmm.. I have been thinking about this as a software design challenge. The way around the problem could be to limit the developed and presented options by: 1. Limiting the size and shape of the layout. Ask the room size and the location of any doors. It would be then easy to allow room for an operator and one visitor. (We always need to maximise the layout space - so only one visitor at a time is okay). 2. Asking a question about the preferred shape by using psychological flash cards.. Like these:     3. This would also help us to identify the wrong sort of people for model railroading and provide advice before they develop a psychiatric disorder.  This person may not be a suitable model railroader or perhaps they spent too much time trying to get s88s to work with a CS2 or eCOS. |
