Hello Moritz,
the conversion is looking good. You seem to have plenty of room for the changes. Look forward to the completed job. I have recently bought a new MS2 controller for a small digital layout and like yourself have a number of analogue locomotives that are suitable for conversion. I watch with interest to your outcome.

Moritz, you've done a great job there but be careful and try the next time to get the ball bearing right in the centre, I use drills slightlyu bigger than the hole and than work my way up to 3.9mm and the rest of 1mm I'll make sure the ball bearing doesn't fall through. although I use a Dremel drill I drill the hole by hand making sure I'm staying at the centre all the time. the older 3 pole armature and its motor shield had quite a bit of play but the 5 pole with its perm. magnet and the motor shield, if it isn't dead centre you will find it doesn't turn at all or its max. speed is restricted.
mine is still on the workbench and it will have a few more gadgets attached to it and I may look inot a Zimo sound decoder with 6 Aux functions, ESU Sound decoders only get you 4 Aux functions with the 51968 Adapter plate or you have to buy a more expensive adapter plate to obtain 6 Aux functions and the questions is would it fit into the available space.
My project will be:
ball bearings (done this)
Aux 1 = smoke unit
Aux 2 = telex coupling front
Aux 3 = telex coupling rear
Aux 4 = gearlight
Aux 5 = cabin light
Aux 6 = fire box
I also be looking at what maximum size speaker I can fit into it and of course led's front and rear, the question is however did they have marker lights ? could you verify this

I think about using a Doehler&Haass SD21A-4 Sound decoder, because I have to use more then 4 AUX ports, too: FL = front head light RL = rear head light Aux 1 = front marker light Aux 2 = rear marker light Aux 3 = telex coupling front Aux 4 = telex coupling rear Aux 5 = smoke unit Aux 6 = cabin light The only thing is, that AUX5/6 are not available on the mtc21 board but only on solder pads on the decoder. Alternatively I could switch both Telex to one AUX: FL = front head light RL = rear head light Aux 1 = front marker light Aux 2 = rear marker light Aux 3 = telex coupling front / rear Aux 4 = smoke unit Aux 5 = N/A Aux 6 = N/A Then, I could stay with the mSD sound decoder. I haven't checked yet, if there was a 85 007 with marker lights. But, if You run them as museum loco, they must have marker lights. Otherwise, they will not get a license to run on german rails! Moritz, looks good, you may bend the telex bar 1/2mm upwards to make sure it is just above the coupling bar.

Hello Miguel, I'm not sure if it is better than the Esu, but the decoder is much cheaper. This sound is from Matthias Henning, who is well known for his high quality sound projects! Some more pictures after the conversion:     Here maybe is enough space for the bigger 1.000µF capacitor:   |

Here some (nearly) final pictures. I found space for a second capacitor, in total I have now 940µF capacity, enough for main usage.     Finally, I have to change the Telex circuit. I tested to connect to the case (rail), but the Telex won't work good. Therefore, I have to change and connect again with Decoder-Plus. And here is a video from motor test stand: The HLA motor runs well and acceptable noisy. The minimal speed is 1,8km/h, which is the minimum I was able to set with the Doehler&Haass decoder on FS1! And, finally, I haven't yet realized the head/rear light LED board for the front lights! |
