First, a little history. Thanks to a problem with the original Marklin digital signals, I have always run the signals through a 6017 booster, which does not transmit mFx data. Combined with my eCos 1 this has been a trouble-free arrangement for many years.
I recently sold my eCos 1 and purchased an eCos 2 from my local dealer. After upgrading the new eCos 2 from version 3.6.0 (was definitely old stock - sigh) to 4.0.2, I then connected the eCos to my layout using the same plugs I used in my old eCos (the new eCos 2 plugs were sent with my old eCos 1 to the new owner)..
All was well until, I transferred my signal settings from WDP to the eCOS and the signals started to communicate with the Ecos . The eCos 2 started to cut out. My first thought was that I had been sold a dud eCos 2. Until I disconnected the link between the booster and the eCos 2. The cut outs stopped and the layout worked properly - minus the signals.. Sigh..
This morning I will swap out the 6017 for the proper eCos booster.. Which, I am sure, will pick up the version 1 signal problem..
Does anyone else run their layout with an eCos 2 and a 6017 booster? |

Adrian, it may be worth going onto the English ESU forum and ask the question as well,

I have some ten or so y/o M signals, not at V2, and I thought I'd just use them in analogue mode, but thru a 6017 booster ?? I wonder how that would go with a CS2 (ie CS2 and old M digital signals thru a 6017 ?) |

Hi!
Maybe the ECoS II has a different software configuration than the ECoS I.
The 6017 is known to detect overload when transmitting pure, symmetric DCC. Enabling the asymmetric track signal in the ECoS should prevent that. |

Thanks Tom.. Unfortunately, I have already tried that trick..
Not to worry.. It's not like I need to buy an ESU booster as one has been sitting in a box since Miss 16 and I downgraded the layout to a much smaller one a few years ago.. |

Well I swapped out the old 6017 with the old ESU 4A Booster and everything is working perfectly.. I notice that my 10 signals are drawing 250Ma, while the three locos (The 2015 MM loco, the Tegernsee loco and the VSLF Re 460) only draw a combined 350Ma.. Nice..
