It will pull the train from Helsingborg to Malmö tomorrow afternoon (croc first) for a display at platform 10 at Malmö C before going to Ängelholm for rebuild restoration. There might be some more croc pics tomorrow night... |

A person, who like myself, was at Stockholm C when the Crocodile left Stockholm has posted a short video on Youtube.(I do not know the person, August Ekman, but thought that the video might interest some of you). I would also join Utkan in looking forward to photos from Malmö or perhaps along the line between Helsingborg and Malmö, but we all have to count on those who live in that part of Sweden, like our Webmaster, for such photos. ( Timetable for that line and the train number is 95547 and is shown on pages 4 and 5 as a red line). Edited by moderator 22 September 2015 18:27:12(UTC)

Crap. With all the photos and video, 14305 feels like an old friend. I may need to buy an M unit with that road number. That would be number 7. |
Matt Era 3 DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control. With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397. |

Some bad news posted at Swedish Postvagnen (Mail coach).A quick translation: "More Crocodile Problems - No Crocodile to Malmö (General) HP, Jonkoping, Wednesday, September 16, 2015, 09:45:35 The Crocodile journey continues. We have another bearing that gets a little bit too hot. We are now entering in Alvesta. Because of bearing problems and catenary problems in Älmhult which means single-track operation (not easy to get a slow train through there ...), so we have decided that our priority is to get the locomotive to Ängelholm and our workshop there. It means that we are unfortunately forced to cancel the run on the route Helsingborg - Malmö and back in the afternoon / evening. So there will be no crocodile to Malmö at all. This is of course very sad, but we need to get the locomotive to the workshop now the nearest route. The train then goes as planned Alvesta Hässleholm - Helsingborg (train no 95547) but it will be late. From Helsingborg to Ängelholm, we will go as train number 95548. Depending on when we come to Helsingborg and how the traffic situation is, it could be that the 95548 will be early. Keep watch here and we will keep you informed. Our intension is still to try to run as scheduled on the Halland's ridge tomorrow, but we will not know this for sure until we have reached Ängelholm and have made a control of the bearing. In other words, maybe not until tomorrow morning. Sincerely, Henry R, SJVM" This is bad news for our Webmaster and others in the Province of Scania who had plans for taking photos south of Helsingborg today. I will try to keep you posted about the development.

Why is it having all these problems? Is it the colder weather? Sea Air?
Does this mean that it will stay in Sweden longer so that it can still do all of the planned routes? |

It sounds a bit less dramatic on the SBB Historic website ( http://www.sbbhistoric.ch/de/ ): A catenary problem is confirmed there, but the bearing problem only seems to be a side issue (hopefully!). And please keep in mind that this locomotive is almost 90 years old and not used to running such a long distance.

Magic Sunday morning. This is the place where I was born, still got the house in the family, and even now, a few days later, it is almost hard to believe that this Old Lady was driving by here . But, yes, she did...

Juhan, Thank you for the incredible photos and videos. The one of your son in front of the Croc has my family all amazed. That photo could have been me 30 years ago ... Right down to the style of clothing! The resemblance is uncanny. My wife is now wondering if my great aunt Solveig missed a part of our Swedish family tree, as part of her geniological research |

Does this mean that it will stay in Sweden longer so that it can still do all of the planned routes? I don't think colder weather is of any importance here. Both Switzerland and Sweden have snow in winter and I am convinced that the SBB Historic were equipped with suitable oil (or grease) for lubricating the bearings. I would rather bet on that distances play a role. According to the route planner www.viamichelin.de , the road distance from Basel to Chiasso or from north to south of Switzerland is given as 288 km and the rail distance would be close. The distance from Gävle to Stockholm is about 180 km and from Stockholm to Malmö about 600 km, in other words the distance travelled one-way in Sweden is comparable to going from north to south Switzerland two or three times. (It should be remembered that when looking at the area of countries, then only France and Spain are larger than Sweden when looking at countries of the EU. In addition, France and Spain are closer to square shaped whereas Sweden is long and narrow).

Crocodile + SJ Dm3 struggling in darkness. A very creepy place when its dark and it was almost scary to hear the sound when these two giants were drawing near in the black forest.

I had a really great day together with Webmaster, Herrfleck and hwestl. We arrived really early in the morning, and didn't go home until lunch time after saying goodbye to the Croc as she had went aboard the ferry to Poland. Swiss crocodile and swedish FIKA on the same day with good company, can't get any better than that, right!? Here is my video from today, hope you enjoy it!

I can only second Rapunzel's summary of the day, it was a fantastic day and we got to say farewell to the crocodile we have learnt to love the last 2 weeks. It felt a bit sad to see her go away from Sweden. We had a little chat with the busy Herr Maurer and I got the opportunity to thank him personally for the immense efforts he and the whole team have made to show us Swedes a real icon in railroading. My take on hwestl's "old catalog style" |

A couple of more pics from Ystad before the old girl was moved onto the ferry to Poland... Just moved into the yard. From above... Herr Maurer is oiling the axles as a preparation for further travel. A lovely machine it is... Isn't she beautiful? |

Time to say goodbye... The Swiss CE 6/8 III 14305 along with the SBB Historic excursion coaches left Sweden today. Some of us Swedish marklin-users have had many great moments with this loco and it will be sadly missed since it will probably never come back here. Immense thanks must be given to the SBB Historic Schwedenfahrt team that have worked their hearts out to get it to Sweden even though it broke down in Berlin on the way here. Those guys have really made a difference with their skill and dedication to make this happen even if there was a major damage during the travel to Sweden. Also thanks to the Swedish Railway Museum team for making this visit possible. There are a lot of other small stories of help during its travel also in Sweden. So I wish to express a huge Thank You to Daniel Maurer and all the guys in the Schwedenfahrt team who made all this possible. Here is the last unedited video shot on Swedish soil with the SBB CE 6/8 III 14305 that I took today, I felt a bit sad to see it go since this machine has touched many Märklin railroader hearts in Sweden - including mine. Yesterday was absolutely wonderful, that gave us so many spots to get a really good view of the Crocodile. I’m really grateful having a opportunity to get that close to it, and also with friends as Herrfleck, Webmaster and Rapunzel. I really enjoyed it. Thank you all. I had brought my 8856 Z crocodile, and my 3656 H0 crocodile that has the same number as the real one, 14305. and some more non-crocodile pictures If SBB Historic is missing one of the lok-number plates, I know where it is

Apparently, a new bearing problem has affected the Crocodile. It has been brought to the maintenance works at Seddin (again) where the necessary repairs will be carried out. The remaining cars of the SBB consist will continue their journey and should be back in Switzerland on Tuesday.

Of course there were a lot of other side photos taken during the croc days, and now I have begun to go through them... I found this pic from the initial Malmö session... This shows the nice VolldampfTV video crew getting ready. But: I was quite surprised to see that the railfan to the right in the picture also was in Ystad during the last day of the croc in Sweden. While we were having breakfast at a café in Ystad after the early morning session, he was sitting right next to us and I had to excuse myself to get to "my" seat at our table. Just another personal detail from our great croc adventure... |
