Hi, I have watched several prototype railway Lok Videos and I am a bit confused about when these particular sounds occur on Loks? Steam; 1. When is air pump used, for instance at station when standing or....? 2. Air Release , I believe each time after Lok stops? 3. Injector? While standing, riding...? Diesels; 1. Blowers? Electrics; 1. Blowers? 2. Injector? 3. Main relay? (as on SBB Re6/6) 4. Compressor? Peter

1 & 4 are the same , Compressor & air pump start automatically when main reservoir air pressure is below a pre set level .
2 Air /brake release occurs after brakes have been operated or do you mean when max air pressure has been passed in the main reservoir .
3 Injector is manually operated when water is required in boiler , can be used anytime .
1a Blowers are used for traction motors in either Eloks or diesels to pressurise to stop dust entry & cooling effect .
2 No injectors on Eloks . On diesels ,on motor for fuel injection .
3 Main Relay is for connection of overhead to main switching on engine .
All of the above is based on Australian rail operations but the same would be relevant to any other railway .

Hi! Originally Posted by: Tom Jessop All of the above is based on Australian rail operations but the same would be relevant to any other railway . Not quite. There are differences between diesel-electric and diesel-hydraulic locomotives. The later do not have electric driving motors (no individual blowers), but will have gears where hydraulic liquid will be injected before loco moves. There also are diesel-mechanic vehicles. |
Regards Tom --- "In all of the gauges, we particularly emphasize a high level of quality, the best possible fidelity to the prototype, and absolute precision. You will see that in all of our products." (from Märklin New Items Brochure 2015, page 1) ROFLBTCUTS |
