(With thanks to Wikipedia)The Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) Class 1200 were a class of electric locomotives that were in service from 1951 until 1998. They were designed by Baldwin and built by Werkspoor (Utrecht) between 1951 and 1953. The electrical parts were built by Heemaf (Hengelo) to a design by Westinghouse. Some parts (the bogies, and the electrical installation) were made in the United States as part of the Marshall Plan. After more than 40 years of service the Class 1200 was retired from service in 1998. Numbers 1201, 1202 and 1211 were preserved for museums, whilst 1214, 1215, 1218, 1221 and 1225 were bought by the Dutch freight operator ACTS Nederland BV in 1999 and were renumbered to 1251-1255. Engine 1253 was taken out of service in 2003 and is now used for spare parts. In 2007 engine 1252 was taken out of service. In 2009 and 2010 the remaining 3 engines were taken out of service by ACTS and engines 1251, 1252, 1254 and 1255 were acquired by Euro-Express-Treincharter BV (EETC). As of January 2011 engines 1251 and 1252 are again in active service whilst engine 1254 is being refurbished. They are used for transporting the empty Citynightline train from Munich and Zurich and the Euronight Jan Kiepura train from Moscow, Minsk, Warsaw, Prague and Copenhagen between Amsterdam Centraal railway station and Watergraafsmeer. They are also used for spare runs with charter trains and transporting carriages to and from the EETC workshop in Rotterdam. In april 2015 the last engines were taken out of service because of financial problems at EETC. The future of the still operable locomotives is unclear. One of the most versatile locomotives the Dutch Railways ever had. Being in different liveries depending on the era and the company having ownership of them at the time, it has pulled virtually any rolling stock that ever appeared on the Dutch railway network, both passenger coaches and freight cars, including intermodal trains. The blue livery is from 1954 till the early 70's. You might find pictures of it in blue without the logo, these are mostly fairly recent pictures and the locomotive would be a (working) museum locomotive, restored in original colour but unable to sport the NS company logo, as it no longer belongs to that company. When i was in the army back in 1976 (41 Genie Bat.),i needed to travel by train to the barracks at Vught on Sunday nights,always great fun,not really. Walking from the station into the dark woods along the railwayline,there was the regular traffic of NS 1200 locomotives pulling intercity coaches (the fully blue type) at 120 km/h,also heavy ore trains with 4-axle Fals type cars,she pulled both. Always very impressive. Waiting for my local connection at the station of Oisterwijk,the blue intercities on their way to Maastricht were passing at full speed,always an impressive sight,especially at night.
This is indeed my favorite loco. I had the Marklin one in blue and in grey/yellow,and sold them both. I think i will need to buy them again! |

Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

 Hi Myself, wife and my ten year old daughter used the EETC train charter company. On their service to Koper in Slovenia from their base in Den Bosch. I will morn the loss of this company very much. As this service was the best overnight service we have ever used. And we have done a few  I don't like those tubes with wings The train charter company or in this case Autoslaap was truly fun and well run. The carriages were made up of ex NS, DB, and SNCB stock painted mostly in a Matt red.apart from the inKnox coaches usually one behind the loco which, to my delight looked inside with its wood finish, just like a compartment used in a scene from the bond film. The Spi Who Loved Me, were Jaws(the man with the silver teeth attacks bond and the Russian female spi. Tha autoslaap had a full restaurant service, which served our meals just when the train ran along the Rhine Valley, with the other line running along the other bank[ And best of all  the train engine which was used, was the then Marklin livery, ex NS1200 which took us from Den Bosch in Holland to Emmericht on the German border   |

Some moving pictures. Note the various headlight configurations. Marklin have followed these adjustments over time. The version in very light green was the first in operation,soon followed by the fully blue ("Berlin Blue") version. Note the older versions have headlamps on the four corners,later versions have A-style headlamps with built-in reverse lamps in the lower units. |

Seen this one? The New Haven EP-5 electric locomotive prompted Fleischmann to issue a NS 1200 series in New Haven colors. The model is very rare by now and prices are rising. There is a coach set to go with it. It seems that the wheelsets for the NS prototype in 1951 were copied from the NH prototype. http://www.effert.de/ebay/G260.1.jpg |

It is hard to find proper clips of this popular NS locomotive,strangely enough. I tried to find one showing the blue version with a string of blue intercity coaches from the mid seventies,nothing found sofar.

Thanks for the pictures but i was looking for a movieclip of the blue version. For the blue coaches see Marklin 4048 postrijtuig/mailcoach (i have that one),4049,and 4117. Thes tinplate coaches were supplied without interior. |

M issued the Le Capitole train totally unexpected,one of the great classics of my youth,so a Dutch tinplate set plus loco 1200 would be nice. |
