I can not give a complete answer: Since each CS is providing power, you need to isolate (insolate) sections of track. Not sure what cables are needed for them to exchange information. The CS can control many locs but does require calling each one up. So, one CS can actively control 2 locs and then call up others and activate them. Sounds like you want to have 6 pair of hands working locs at same time. Certainly others will provide ideas to have multiple sets of hands and what is needed.

Greg, at this time you cannot connect 2 CS units together, and the only way you could have 2 CS controlling a layout is if they are electrically isolated from each other, i.e. each CS controls half of the layout each. However, the passing of control of a locomotive from 1 CS to another would not be possible. You would be better off with a single CS connected to a PC running train control software such as LocCommander, from which you can control as many locos as you can physically display on your PC monitor. http://users.telenet.be/loccommander/

Another way: It should also work to have one CS ("slave") connected to the sniffer port of another CS ("master"). I presume you can only use the slave CS with MM protocol so your limited to 255 addresses with 5 functions each. You can only control locos that have a sniffer address configured on the master CS. |

Good point Tom. Can you switch solenoids from the 'slave' CS as well?
I think the sniffer is limited to 80 addresses, for use with the 6021.

I ne'er tested the sniffer, but the GUI allows addresses up to 9999 IIRC. I think the sniffer was designed to support all Märklin Digital boxes, so solenoids should work, too. |

Your better option is to have multiple MSs as throttles using a single CS as command station for the layout. Redirect the money for a 2nd CS into boosters.

No common ground with transformers for MS or CS. No problem having common ground on the track. But I'd use a rocker on the center rail; you could also use a switchable section between the two CS. |

Thanks fellas, that really is great help. Very much appreciated. The summary as I would handle the situation, is to adopt the simpler approach and that is to have one CS a with muliple MS's and hook it all up to a PC. This was my original thought, however, I thought it was worth a shot with 2 CS's, but the isolation feature would degrade the "working layout", i.e. not as exciting as trains crossing in front of each other with one hand hovering over the emergency stop !!!!! Also, with the 1 CS & many Cs's it would be cheaper, i.e. expensive instead of exorbitant  . The only thing left is to "hide" the costs from the "trouble & strife" (wife") [:I] |
