I´ve got confirmation from my dealer that my 26496 has arrived and they will send it to me. Also I noted something interesting in the spare parts list on the web:
Kupplung m. Schneepflug E702 980 Kupplungsimitation E216 699
Also I noted the coupler on the last B-unit is the current conductiong couple 72020 which suggests the interior lighting is controlled through the locos, like the Wabash. |

I can't speak to the color "red", but didn't mother give us a dome car with "green glass" and not the former "clear glass" I guess that is what an upgrade is in their estimation! Best Regards, gene By the way, Is the 26496 set metal. I got mine wednesday ( june 11) and it seem much lighter that the 26495 set? Just wondering

Just wondering The cars are lighter because of the led lights. The cars from 26495 and 26600 sets have the older lights like 73150 marklin lighting kit which is heavy.

Very nice!
It's great to see some people have the courage to attempt a repaint. It's a very rewarding aspect of the hobby we don't see much with Marklin models.
Well done, Ak!

Thanks Fellows, For sure I have now more respect for M* manufacturing quality after this exercise. And I will be less prone to bolt and rivet counting. Edited by user 25 August 2014 02:08:34(UTC)

Rapido announced the production of the New Haven EMD FL9 in HO scale with factory-installed ESU LokSound DC/DCC/SOUND decoders or as DC models (DCC-ready). Order Deadline February 20, 2015, available Late 2015 http://www.rapidotrains.com/fl9_ho.htmlI guess a magician like Dr. Eisenbahn could convert one of those to "three-rail"... It was an Electro/Diesel that could run without Diesel power on NY electrified lines as Diesel or Steam were not allowed into the city. As far as I can see NewHaven only used FL9s and had no F-units except for some later units painted in "historic" liveries by later owners of the trackage. Unfortunately the third rail was at the side and not down the middle of the track ! I have had mine on order for some months and ordered a version which also has a Pantograph. Regards, Colin.

I know. With "three rail" I was referring to an adaption for running on M* track by adding a pick-up shoe etc. |

According to Kansas Trivia, this Kansas City community owes it name to the former location of a smelter refining small amounts of silver found in Kansas (Argentum is Latin for silver). Source: http://books.google.pt/b...nepage&q&f=false |

Did some research on the prototypical painting and lettering aspects of M* HO gauge tin plate Santa Fe box cars (ignoring the 40 versus 50 ft length issue). Ordered chronologically backwards in terms of prototypical appearance (i.e., ignoring the order of M* production runs during the last half century), the order of the three M* models is (see also pix): M* 47760-06 as of 1958: DF (= damage free) with Shock Control slogan first used on Bx-76 class (Indian Red sides & black roof) M* 4572 1947 - 1958: ‘Ship & Travel’ used on freight cars instead of the maps M* 45644-01 1940 -1947: Straight line maps with ‘Santa Fe all the Way’ on freight cars left side with passenger train slogans : Super Chief, El Captain, Chief, Grand Canyon, Scout on right side Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

Hi Ak, Another interesting fact regarding lettering for the real Santa Fe freight cars. Prior to 1947, the reporting marks showed A.T.S.F. (with the full stops). After 1947 new and repainted cars were plain ATSF regards Kimball |

Some annotations regarding the M* 3362/3762 model of the Santa Fe blue bonnets with double front lights - not to be mistaken with the standard blue F7 freight versions with single head lights. (ATSF 200 series) never produced by M*: Very soon after passenger service was handed over to AMTRAK in 1971, some of the formerly red bonneted 325 Class F7s received a freight blue bonnet and blue-yellow cigar band paint scheme, namely the seven F7As (325L, 327L, 329L, 332L, 335L, 338L and 343L) plus 17 F7Bs. So far so good. However, M* released them with silver trucks while the prototypes had black trucks. Therefore, I allowed myself to adjust the version in my possession accordingly - see photos. :-) Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

Did not impress me sufficiently to earn a posting in the great layouts section, but interesting enough to be mentioned here due to mixed M* US equipment - e.g. somewhere I spotted a T&P loco pulling AMTRAK coaches - on a US themed layout in Germany. Here is the pic I had in mind. I doubt that it is depicting a scene of the above mentioned professional layout: As we all know there is a F7 B-unit needed for passenger train operations. Interesting use of a small mirror between the buildings though. (Besides the website is not very informative: http://www.suhw.eu/index.php?id=hobbywelt)Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

Did Marklin make their F7 in both versions? I have never owned a Marklin F7, but would not mind a Pennsy version if they make one with the new tooling. regards Kimball |

"Pure" freight F-types had only a single headlight; and Santa Fe freight F-types had - to put it simply - blue bodies with yellow "goggles" - see pix. Most of the F7s M* made had double headlights; notable exceptions with single headlights are the Alaska RR and Electro-Motive F7 A-B-A sets. Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |
