Hi,
Is there a prototype for this model or is it a fantasy Märklin model?
Cheers

Sorry, the Weltmeisterzug VT08 with New title 2014 could Have bene intersting, but this fantasy loco is just to make money with the WM title. The model has the poor technique from simple hobby Traxx models for a much to high price.
Better to buy a used VT 08 with this money. |

Yes, but it doesn't allow you to enrol for ordering it at all !!! Probably they received too many registrations !! In any way, it is very beautiful with the gold pantos and couplers, and can make a fantastic exhibition in the wooden case !! Akis

My hobby is use my models, watch and photograph them, not speculate over models to make money, so I'm not interested in this object. |

Hi Alberto, The same for me (even if I do not photograph them). That is the reason why I did not book the locomotive, even if I was in time to do it. Congratulations for the wonderful article in the Märklin Magazine! Cheers Renato

Maybe so, but fuzzy or not it is still on the locomotive. I wonder if Märklin got permission??

Amazing how much more money you can get by taking a 59 EUR lok (OK 89 EUR) and selling it for 300 EUR

I don't understand why they limited the sale to 333 units.. 2014 units would make much more sense and more profit for Marklin - perhaps there is some marketing data about the number of German Marklin Insiders that actually watch football? |

With 2014 units they may have problems to sell all units at that high price - but even at € 199.95 the total profit would be much higher. They set the rules for this gamble. It seems they forgot to set the webshop into gamble mode (a draw from all orders received before July 31) so the webshop worked in the normal first-come-first-serve mode. Either way it was clear that many people would be left unhappy. In August eBay will show us what this loco is really worth ... I presume many ordered it just to sell it on eBay. It was already sold out when I read the e-mail. I wonder whether they will set the webshop into "gamble mode" in the next few days so that every club member will be able to submit his/her order for the draw. |

Do you not think a lot of people would buy the loco for what it represents , regardless of cost. How many more World Cups will Germany win ? There could be a whole series of locos with every German World Cup win . I put in my order for something to leave the grandchildern regardless of its value. Take care Eddie Hope I get it

I don't believe in buying trains for their resale value. I buy trains because I like the look of them and to run them on my layout.
This particular loco has no interest for me, as I'm not a football fan, but I'm sure many Marklin insiders from Germany will regard this as a "must have".
It really does not matter whether it's a cheap hobby loco, what type of motor it has, or whether any part of it is made in China. This is a celebration of Germany winning the world cup and that's its appeal. |

I ran my VT08 with the Fussball Weltmeister added car around the layout several times last week. That is enough for me. |
