Hello,
I'm starting the modification of my old lady 191 099-1 with LED circuit board for the head lights and, of course, I will add red rear lights.

I created a simple perfboard and soldered red and golden warm white SMD LEDs of type 0603 on the board:

In the middle, You can see the extra LED for the upper single head light, turned by 90 degree to shine directly into the light fiber optics.

To be continued...

Now, the 2.nd part:

I finished the cable soldering. For Decoder plus (U+) and Front Light, I used the socket connector for the bulp. Two small parts of a resistor wire are strong enough to hold the board in place.

Then, I had to modify the fiber optics to have enough space for the LED board and to prevent rear light comming to the upper head light.

And here this is how it looks after the conversion. The head lights can be dimmed by the decoder settings or by using another resistor type (I used 1.2kOhm).

Hi Moritz,

Nice improvement. I can not do this kind of electric improvement myself, but I enjoy watching how others like you can ThumpUp .

Hello Moritz/All,

I like your efforts to enhance your locomotives, well done. For those that are interested I have an alternate method to add rear lights to the E91 which only uses 3 LED's at each end and there is not modification to the light pipe.

Have Fun.

Hello Ross,
well done and well dscribed! Thanks!

There is only one point I would change for the E91: For the upper headlight I would prefer to use the same type of LED as You have used for the bottom head lights to receive the same light colour.

Ross, Moritz,

what I like about changing bulps to led's is as you go along and fit led's into different locos I find I always find new and simpler ways of doing it without when possible using connectors, I have done this with my 3001 locos, another thing is also I don't always have suitable led's on hand until I go ont ebay and find different companie3s who sell led's cheaply, I've got these fibre optics but haven't used them as such but Ross your pictures give me new ideas again.thanks for sharing
