Hi, does anybody know a suitable sound decoder (ESU) for the above loco, ESU doesn't produce a sound decoder for this loco but I thought like the Ae 4/7 can or I have used for the Ae 8/14, it mainly depends on what type of motors they have, any ideas ?
it also brings me to an additional fact of comparing this loco with the legendary crocodile, the BLS Ae 6/8 has an hourly performance output of 4410 kw/h against the crocodiles 1810 kw/h output regards.,

The older Roco models of the Ae 6/8 either had no decoder or had a 8-pin socket (Digitrax or ESU) type. The motor design of the Ae 6/8 was similar to some French and Italian designs, but I could not find any of those loco types on the ESU site. SNCF 5500, 6000 type. EBT/BT Be 4/4, OBB 1170, etc In a pinch, you could try to see if you can find sounds for the Brawa E73 and add some Swiss sounds (whistle, announcement, horn, etc) or the German E94. You could grab some sounds from the ESU sound bank. The motor sounds would not be the same as the Buchli drive of the Ae 3/5, Ae 4/7, Ae 4/6 or Ae 8/14 or Crocodile.

Considering that the BLS still have an operational Ae 6/8 it is somewhat surprising that there is no sound project from ESU.
However, also popular in Europe are Zimo and Deutz sound decoders, it would be worth checking if a sound project exists for one of these.

John, sorry I should have typed Dietz, it was early morning here, Deutz is a manufacturer of commercial engines! I'll blame my eyesight on that one. Dietz are tied up with Uhlenbrock I believe, under the Intellisound branding. I have extensively googled but can't find anything further. What I would say is that here in the UK we have a number of small specialists who produce sound projects for UK outline models for use with ESU Loksound decoders. I suspect that the same is true in Switzerland, Germany etc. as I believe BLS 205 to still be operational, I find it hard to believe that no one has recorded her and produced sound files. Ashley

The reason for there not being sounds probably is because there has been no manufacturer making a model of this lok type for a few years.

Mike C Mike, apparently Fulgurex made a model but in Gauge O and it did have an ESU sound decoder but ESU hasn't got any record of it or it is an older type decoder Version 1 or 2 and the technical department at ESU don't give any information dating back to these type of decoders. I can't see ESU going down the track and producing more sound decoders unless any of the other manufacturers who use ESU decoders produce these type of loco(s). since Roco has switched from ESU to Zimo I can't see any Austrian locos will get sound decoders from ESU unless ESU produces these locos themselves. I think we've reached a stage whereas ESU used to be a rescuer regarding sound projects and while they had the contract with Roco and Märklin they were willing to introduce such sound decoders but I think the times have changed. An other aspect of using sound decoders is ESU produces a lokprogrammer which makes it easy for people like myself to program decoders the easy way whereas Zimo decoders have to be programmed via bits and bites and I don't think I will ever get my head around it. regards., John |

I wonder about a post on the Stummi forum, perhaps Tom could help with this, with the German language?
Members of Stummi should know if any specialist companies have produced a sound file project for the Ae 6/8.

John,
I could not find any specific sounds for this loco on the LoksoundXL list Perhaps you could contact Bockholt or ESU and find out which decoders were used.
So far, the SBB BDe 4/4 seems like the best of what I could find for SBB models. The DB E44 or E94 may have reasonable motor sounds. You would have to add some Swiss sounds from the databank, which would require a PC and the Lokprogrammer.
RIVAROSSI has a model of the Italian E428 which comes with Loksound. This locomotive had a Breda motor which is the same type as the one used for some of the BLS Ae 6/8 locos. You would have to use a Lokprogrammer to add Swiss bells, whistles and announcements.

John: This one should have very similar motor sounds to the BLS Ae 6/8. You would probably have to replace the Spanish horns, whistles and announcements with suitable Swiss ones: http://www.tee-usa.com/store/product41916.htmlRegards Mike C
