Vollmer kits are the best, without spending a fortune or doing a lot of custom work.
Hard to believe they are going under, tough economy!

Truly truly sad day indeed for all kit builders. Without a doubt one of if not the best known and respected names in kits. Fingers crossed that someone will come to the rescue, although it does have me thinking. I've got the Vollmer "5757" 6 Stall Roundhouse still in the shrink wrap. It going to be a good 12 months before I start on the new layout and depending what happens in that time I could be tempted to leave it alone as I imagine that although its not one of their rare kits it might become collectable. LOL, then again by the time it is I'll be dead and gone and the kids would be likely to just chuck it out. Erh, lay money Marklin end up with that mould anyway. |
Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under . |

Ditto my post #51 from this thread. It's quite sad to see a great company go after so many years of knowing them and their wonderful, well-made products. Peter

The German language part of The Vollmer website shows that they are really closing now and are organising a liquidation sale . See here: LINKHowever, I could not find this info on the English part of the Vollmer site, so I made a translation for the forum; Vollmer says goodbye

Could be just the wording of the notice BUT I note that the moulds are not mentioned.
Hopefully that could mean someone has bought them. |

This is sad. It didn't fully hit me until now, but might need to stock up on some things as well. In particular there was the N scale Baden-Baden station I really wanted for a future project, and some of their old N scale catenary that has been out of production a while. (panic mode sets in!) |

As sad as it is I am hopeful that there is no sign of the moulds anywhere so all going well someone has bought them all. We can but pray they will live on under another banner. I am stunned at the relatively low prices for the bulk of the equipment by Oz standards, heaps of bargains. Why did uncle Thorsten have to go and die he could have scored me some brilliant deals. |

Are there any Forum members planning to go to the sale?
If so would you PM me as I would like to discuss if you could bid on an item for me.
Many thanks

What a pity Only four years after founder Wolfram K. Vollmer's death. He must be rolling in his grave. I really hope that some other company buys the molds. If this happens it is possible that some old items will surface to the market again like refinery towers Best regards Åke Br502362 attached the following image(s):

There seems to be some info floating around a few forums that Vollmer model business has been brought by Viessman in the last few days, The Vollmer website has been updated & states that normal production is back in force & a full catalogue will be available again. When the Vollmer name will appear in the Visseman Catalogue is not yet known. Interesting times ahead. Lokshop has posted an information letter in German and English about Viessmann taking on the rights to produce the Vollmer products with a September availability.
Great news.

Good news but odd, I was under the impression that Viessmann and Kibri were if not in bed together the same company ?
After Vollmer Kibri is my second favourite kit maker so its all good to me. I always had a feeling since there was never any mention of the moulds in the liquidation/auction notices that a "deal" had been done with someone. |

The company Kibri was liquidated, but Viessmann own the trademark and the moulds and Kibri items are now made in the Viessmann factory.
And now it seems the same happens to Vollmer. |

Huh Are you sure ?? I see no confirmation on the Vollmer website whatsoever. On the contrary, the site still shows the old message that Vollmer is closing and about the liquidation sales from last June, see screenshot. Marco |

I always had a feeling since there was never any mention of the moulds in the liquidation/auction notices that a "deal" had been done with someone. Hello Shamu, Yes, I believe that is correct. When in Germany last month I sought out a number of Vollmer, Faller and Kibri items that I wanted in "finishing" my layout (is it ever finished !??) . All the shops told me that Kibri has been acquired by Veissmann and some even mentioned that Kibri was not currently available because the containers are being re-branded to Veissmann. I have in the past preferred Vollmer kits to the other two mentioned and was pleased to find the Vollmer items I wanted from remaining stock in the shops I visited. If Veissmann have acquired Vollmer I hope they continue to produce from the old molds rather than just continue to use the brand. Regards, PJ

What great news !! Ms Vollmer did look rather sad in the announcements of Vollmer closing, so it is nice that one family company has been revived by another. PJ

So, did Viessmann buy the tooling at the "factory sale" earlier this year or did they just acquire the name? The message suggests that they bought the tools too, and that would be absolutely great.... Very happy to see that at least Viessmann seem to do ok in this rather specialised market... |
