Good evening! I did bought 3 passanger cars and need advice,about how to install lighting. They are: 4313,4314 and 4315. Any good idea? Goofy attached the following image(s): |

Hello! You can bay the pick up shoe from Märklin set 7318 as sparepart and a Märklin 73400. By the way I think it is very nice wagons  Bertil |

How do you open these wagons to come inside ?  Yes Bertil that is possible but how do you get ground contact then ? |

I know there is pickup shoe to fit the hole underframe.
The ground has to been done with copper spring feather to glue fasten on the underframe of the coaches or somehow what...
The kit 7318 is not producing anymore time,so i have to find the problem to use contact couples. |

Hello Anders, Yes it is possible to light the coaches you have.  I used for this example 2 pole electrical couplers. The lights are switched direct from a function output on the locomotive decoder.  I used six 0603 yellow LED's that are positioned for each window soldered to vero board as shown with 1k resistors  The copper foil with holes is the -Pole. The middle solid copper foil is the +Pole. The bottom thin solid copper foil is used for mounting the LED's Under each LED the foil has been cut with a 0.8-1.0mm gap. 3 LED's are in series with each other. In the photo above the LED anode is on the righthand side and the cathode is on the left lefthand side. The LEDs are all oriented in the same direction. To the left of the middle resistor on the thin foil you can just see the foil has a small gap to isolate the two groups of three LED's. Where you see a wire link (two places) this is the +Pole connection to the anode side of the LED for each group. The resistor connects the final LED cathode of each group and the other end connects to the -Pole. This method of lighting works very well and suites the old style coaches. Please note you will need fine soldering skills for the LED's. The lighting strip is mounted to one side of the mounting supports with the LED's closest to the centre of the coach. Ross, brilliant idea its worth the effort but some modellers may find it to hard.
(slightly off topic) but why didn't they put the pins in a vertical and not in a horizontal position, as your photo shows the carriage can only be connected in one direction I have the Roco 4 pin electrical couplings and the configuration is the same as your couplings but doubled up.
What I do like about Roco models (not all of them) but the axle(s) are ground fed and with this in mind you only need one wire and the coupling (current couplings) used for this would also allow you to uncouple the carriages.

You can use ground from Märklin 7318 as spare part to.
There is Märklin 7318 on Ebay and I think some train shops have some to.

If you are using the 73400 LED strip, you can attach this to the coach roof or try to fix it to the top of the interior fittings.
If you can get the axle contacts from the 7318 and the pickup slider, that would be a good way to obtain power. If you can, I would try to use a single slider for the coaches and use Maerklin's current conducting coupler or a two pole coupler to power the other coaches. If you use two pole, you will have better ground return, especially if each coach also has a single axle contact too.
Contact service(at)maerklin.de to find out if the axle contacts are still available as parts.

In the New wagen set 43194 there is a special ground contact that maybe could fit these type of wagons to,,,
I have the 43194 set and it looks like it should fit 4314, 4315 etc,,,
Maybe someone knows the number of this ground contact from the 43194 set ? |

It seems here that pick up shoe makes shortcircuit on the turnout tounges,which makes me not possible to use lighting in the couches. It´s okey without lighting too. Thanks Bertil for the warning tip! |

That is one of many great things with this lovely forum. Looking and finding information. And find solutions.
I also have these coaches and thinking of putting lighting in them. Maybe there is an other railcar with good pick up shoe to add on??
And use current condukting coupler.

It seems i have to borr drill a hole middle of the underframe in the wagons.
When i take look at railbus,i see how pick up shoe is placed close to middle of the underframe. |
