Here in the UK it seems that every preserved line has to have a "Thomas" theme to bring in the younger visitors.
Near me is the "Battlefield Line" which has a "Thomas" loco occasionally.
The ultimate must be this..
http://www.draytonmanor....ub=rides-and-attractions
This is also near me but to see something really interesting I go here...
This is also near where I live and I can park the car and walk along a footpath which overlooks the site.
There are plenty of unusual locos running here including Mallets and others.
The line is 2ft and 2ft-6inch gauge and has 3-rail running with a complicated changeover point on a loop to swap the 2ft gauge from one side of the loop to the other.
Just to name drop I have met the Rev. Awdrey of Thomas fame a couple of times. Once at a model exhibition in Birmingham and again at the home of the late "Teddy" Boston who appears in the "Thomas" books as the "Fat clergyman"
Teddy had a 2ft gauge line round his house in the church grounds but all is gone now !
Regards, Colin.

You have to love that optimism and bravado from the 1950s. I saw this British Rail APT E Gas Turbine prototype, but not quiet as elegant...

I saw a couple of CSX Diesels like this pulling a train the other day, I wonder what the dreamers of the atomic future trains would think?

PS:
In 1949–the same year Budd introduced the RDC–American Car & Foundry (ACF) fulfilled a contract to build three Talgo trains, including three locomotives and 32 cars, for the Spanish government-owned railroad. Talgo stands for “Tren Articulado Ligero Goicoechea Oriol” which means “lightweight, articulated train by Goicoechea and Oriol,” the latter two being the company founders.
The first Talgo train was built in Spain in 1942. Note that it is not much taller than the man walking next to it.
