I am planning to buy an italian model by Oskar of a famous diesel railcar Aln 772. These railcars were very common on most secondary lines and I have a fond memory of them. They probably will not say much to someone not into italian trains

This model will have to be converted into AC wich should not be difficult since I oculd install the pick-up shoe in the unpowered car and connect it to the powered one.

It has a 21 pin connector

ESU offers the lokPilot 3.0 mfx with a 21 pin connector under item 61601.

I do believe it will come with the connecting cable since it appears that both ends show a "female" connection. Is that so?

Thanks

I received a 61601 mfx today, which I will put into an M 37140 T3 as a replacement for the broken original decoder. According to the manual, it is pin-compatible with the Lokpilot DCC version of it.

So you should have an easy task indeed... Smile

Juhan,

I assume then that it comes with wiring harness and 21 pin male connector, not as the picture posted on ESU website. This because I have only experience with the 8 pin version of the decoder and that has a wire harness already solderd to the decoder (just plug'n'play Smile )

Mario,

it'll come like the photo shows - no cables!
The 21 pins will hold the decoder in place.

AFAIK there are two incompatible standards for 21 pin decoder connectors. So you might have to check if the ESU decoder uses the correct standard for your loco.

ESU and M* use the MTC configuration, the other one is called PluX.
See 'em both here
Regards
Tom

If you scroll down there are some photos of a decoder + a decoder socket. No wires involved

Bert,
thanks for the link. However, your PCB has the pins that connect to the decoder. In my two pictures above, it seems as neither the decoder nor the interface on the loco (see the second picture) have the pins. They both seem as "female" connection, thus my question. I will have to see the thing when it shows up but I feel I am missing something.

If you look closely you will see there is already a small PCB plugged onto the header. It contains some rectifier diodes, and is meant to be able to run a loco without decoder (in a DC environment).

The pins on the loco are definately male pins.
