Do you trust E-bay, Ray?
I don't.
Not after my last purchase from a well-recommended E-bay seller.... |

Silvano, I've never been let down.
I buy a lot of locos and wagons from ebay, and what I get is almost always exactly what I expect. The best way to not be disappointed is to follow a few simple rules.
1. Don't be cheap. If the deal looks too good to be true then it is.
2. Always use Paypal. If you don't get your parcel or what you get is not what you bought you get your money back. (Though I've never needed this myself)
3. Make sure the seller has 100% positive feedback or near as dammit!
4. Make sure the seller will post to your country and will accept Paypal. If in doubt then don't buy.
5. Examine the photos and the text of the auction carefully, so that you know exactly what you're buying. If in doubt request more information or photos.
6. If possible stick to a handful of dealers who you've dealt with in the past. If they figure out you're a good buyer they'll treat you even better.

What Ray has said sums it up pretty much what you should be doing and what not. As Ray I use most the time the same dealers and haven't had any problems, mind you my purchases haven't been in the thousands of dollars and when I buy a bargain it is from someone I've dealt before with. I also always inquire about the VAT (UK) or MWS (Germany) and see if they deduct it at the time of purchase.
the bargains I'm buying aren't second hand locos but brand new ones and I've passed some of these specials onto some of the forum members. for instance I've just bought a Roco BLS Ae 4/4 for € 117.00 brand new (recommended retail price €219.00) I'm after a BLS Re 4/4 but they're produced either by HAG or Lima and I don't trust Lima or put it this way I don't know enough about their locos. A HAG BLS Re 4/4 usually sells between € 179.00 - € 280.00 and ti doesn't say whether they have a DCC board or are indeed digital and than they may be even more expensive.
