Dunno. Faced similar issue before with "Safari" web browser only, but this time "Firefox" and "Opera" went on strike, too - even after lifting all bans. Can view your attachment though. Therefore: much obliged. |

Hi all. I have just bought some American Railroad history books which are full of Monsters. Here are a couple for your enjoyment. John Stevens 6-2-0 The chimney is bigger than the boiler ! Southern Railroad 4-6-2 with "Wimble Smoke deflector". Intended to stop the exhaust blast damaging wood lined tunnels apparently. Some South African Garratts used a similar device and the locos were called "Rhenoster" or Rhino. U.P locos used a folding smoke hood to prevent tunnel damage and was used on Big Boys and Challengers. It was a lot neater than this type. And while we are in the toilet section have you heard of FART ? FART (Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi – Regional Bus and Rail Company of Canton Ticino http://en.wikipedia.org/...Company_of_Canton_Ticino Here is their bus line but they also run trams. http://www.centovalli.ch/autolinee/home/home.php Regards, Colin. The "Galloping Goose".... Later version than the one shown earlier by Brandon (Rio Grande mail car)... On wikipedia -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galloping_Goose_(railcar)And below - Goose #3 or #5 as a model... #4 did not look like that originally, even if it says so on the model... Could be the #4 after the 1950 modifications, though... Webmaster attached the following image(s): |

I'll bet that they were experimenting with this Lok. The cab crew might have been complaining about the smoke and soot getting in their faces so that's why they made the smokestack so high? Just my thoughts. Peter

Vișeu de Sus in Romania is the terminus of a forestry railway system near the Ukrainian border. Waste wood is burned in the steam locomotive boilers. And there are "rail cars", too. Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

Here's an interesting experiment by UP for a coal(dust) burning turbine locomotive The cab unit is a recycled Alco PA, the center part, with the steam turbine and generator, is build on the rolling gears of a retired Great Northern W1 electric loco, and the coal tender containing the coal and the crushing/ dusting equipement comes from a UP Challenger. Maybe we could dub this one "Dr. Frankenstein's Opus II" ? No/ little water used: the steam in a turbine circulated in closed loop. Edited by user 10 March 2014 21:30:14(UTC)

Hi all. Quote:Edited by moderator 10 March 2014 19:30:14(UTC) | Reason: Added direct link to picture.... /Webmaster Thanks Mod. I don't know how to add direct links. Perhaps you would kindly explain with this mutation. http://www.google.co.uk/...p=12&ved=0CGEQrQMwBA This is an EMD AB6 which is an "E" unit with a flat end. It was used where trains were to connect together at a point in a journey and travel together to the end of the journey. The flat front was to fit the coach profile instead of a normal "nose" in the middle of a train. Regards, Colin. Edited by moderator 14 March 2014 20:30:41(UTC)
