GE made Milwaukee Road EF-4 and EP-4 class electric locomotives nick-named "Little Joe", as they were meant to be exported to the Soviet Union in 1946 which was at that time still governed by the dictator Joseph Stalin (aka "Joe"): Out of the production lot of twenty units, twelve went to the Milwaukee Railroad (see first two photos), three to the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad (the South Shore Line - see third photo), and five to the Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro of Brazil (see last photo). HO scale model offered by Brazilian manufacturer Frateschi: http://www.frateschi.com.br/site/?page=loco-v8Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

Hi all. Quote:HO scale models of "Centipede" Demonstrator pair, GM's "Aerotrain" & Union Pacific M10000 streamliner. I would like to reiterate that you do have a fine and tasteful selection of rare machines! Thank you. I must admit to a liking for unusual railway items. It may come from the area where I live which had Beyer Garratts on the Midland line, An industrial Beyer Garratt on a coal mine line and the West coast main line 100 metres from where I lived during my childhood. Even now there are 2 ft gauge Mallets and miniature Beyer garratts within 10 miles of home. I try not to post photos of non-Marklin items unless the occasion is suitable such as this post or a new Marklin item where I may sneak in another recent purchase. Anyway to make amends here is a Marklin item ( well Trix actually ) This one seems to have escaped the net. Trix V120 Diesel - compressed air loco. Regards Colin.

A real challenge, to find monsters, river or otherwise in my collection. I think everybody here is familiar thanks to mother M, but it's probably worth mentioning the Bavarian PtL 2/2 (BR98.3): |

And on a completely different path, there is this new EMD SD70ACs from 2012. This locomotive was produced (and pictured) at Progress Rail, Muncie, Indiana, 2012. It is to be shipped to North Africa, which explains the huge filtration system on the intakes for desert operation. -Brandon BrandonVA attached the following image(s): |

Hi all. I think this must be included in the monster category. Trix Ae8/14 of Swiss Railways. And this one too. Norfolk & Western Y6b 2-8-8-4. One of the last U.S. steam locomotives built and one of the last in service. A true Mallet compound with huge 29 inch diameter (736mm) low pressure cylinders. Most Mallet compounds were slow haulers running at about 25 mph but these could run at 50 mph. More tractive effort than a "Big Boy" at 152,000 lb against Big Boys' 135,375 lb. Model by Precision Craft with DCC and sound. Regards, Colin.

And a few more for you. To go with the previous Miwaukee "Little Jo" a Milwaukee "Bipolar" A Union Pacific "Veranda" turbine in it's early days without fuel tender. And after the turbines were scrapped the bogies (trucks) were used under another monster. Union Pacific U50. Model by Athearn, DCC & sound. Regards, Colin.

On the subject of rail and waterways I offer these monsters. This runs on rails on each side of a canal and pushes boats up ( or down) a slope in a wedge of water ! And this one works in a similar way but uses two rubber tyred "Locos" , one on each side but is guided by rails so is a sort of railway. Both (I think ) in the Canal du Midi, France. Colin.

I think this one should certainly be included in both the Monster and Mutations category. Union Pacific Coal fired turbine. Recipie... Take one Alco PA. Add a Great Northern Electric chassis with turbine fitted. Add Centipede tender from Big Boy or Challenger. Mix well. Result - Failure. ! Regards, Colin.
