Prototypical Examples for Your layout - or is it layout examples in the prototype?

Hi all, If anyone is feeling depressed their layout is not prototypical enough, here are a few interesting prototypes that seem to be inspired by layout design: 90 degree bend right out of a tunnel? DRGW Moffat Tunnel, West Entrance (Winter Park, Colorado) Moffat Tunnel Subdivision (Coal Creek Canyon, Colorado) "Tanglefoot curve" (East of Cumbres Pass, Colorado) "Big 10 Curve" (East of Clay, Colorado) SP Cane Creek Branch (Moab, Utah) Tehachapi Loop (Kern County, California) Keddie Wye (Keddie, California) Bridge over the Feather River (near Pulga, California) -Brandon |

Me again: The Rendsburg High Bridge, a railway viaduct on the Neumünster–Flensburg line, serving also as a transporter bridge (suspension ferry below the bridge), crosses the Kiel Canal at Rendsburg. The railway line is routed through a large 360-degree loop on the north bank of the canal ("Rendsburg Loop"). Gr. - Ak Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

Hi, This could also go into the "Is this prototypical?" thread due to the rolling stock, but I rather post it here because of the nature of the branch line: With a grade of 6% (!), the short "Hunsrückbahn" from Boppard (on the Rhine valley) to Emmelhausen is the steepest non-adhesion line in western Germany. Until 2009 diesel push-pull trains with (only) two Silberling carriages mastered tight curves and steep grades. Greetz - Ak Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

Brandon, the first photo is quite remarkable. I have been looking for quite sometime for a photo of the California Zephyr being pulled by Alco PA-1s in the later paint scheme. This is the same paint scheme Marklin used for the Denver and Rio Grande Alco PA-1 set it produced a few years back. Still looking for that elusive photo of the Bluebird streamliner being pulled by a single Alco PA-1, however. Thanks! Chris

Maerklin never made a B unit for the Alco, so the sets have all come with either one PA-1 or with a pair.

Another loop in flat northern Germany: In Flensburg the main line from Hamburg in Germany to Fredericia in Denmark runs in a big loop around the southern outskirts of the town. At Flensburg main station another line to Kiel branches off. In the past, Flensburg saw both, German and Danish round noses, like V200 and NOHAB, even in double traction, respectively: http://www.bundesbahnzei...nemark81/b42-220_013.jpghttp://nohab-gm.de/daene...ikorr/flensburg1981.php.Cheers - Ak Alsterstreek attached the following image(s): |

I found one on English Wikipedia but it has copyright and as such i will not copy it. For me as an European these Alco's are a bit confusing to me. The Marklin set is in the Wabash colors. On internet some can be found in Delaware and Hudson colors,it needs a trained eye to spot the difference. |

Hi all, One of the most compressed railroads sites I have seen is here in Brisbane, Australia. This area was originally a steam loco depot and then a diesel servicing area, with carriage storage and cleaning sidings. Now it is a storage and cleaning area for the electric multiple units that run on our suburban network. You can see there is a complete 360° double track balloon loop around the entire site. I guess it is R1/R2 in Marklin-speak. regards Kimball |

This would allow they to do it and still preserve the 3062/4062. Of course if they came out with a digital set the same livery as 3062/4062 I would buy it as well :) -Brandon |
