Hi all,

I recently purchased a BR 043, Märklin model # 37885 on eBay.

I have mixed feelings about this purchase.

Over and above the fact that the seller described this item to be in "like new" condition, which was not, I am at odds with the whistle sound function that it is supposed to have.

The volume of this sound function is extremely low, almost imperceptible, and there seems to be no dial or switch to turn up or down the volume. The locomotive comes with 6 controllable functions, namely, headlights, smoke unit, whistle, telex-coupler and inertia. There is no reference in the instruction booklet on how to control the volume on the whistle.

Does anyone on this forum have this locomotive? I'd appreciate some feedback.

Thank you!
Best regards,
Armando García

Hi, Armando,

I'd expect a mouse piano (DIP switches) for the address - and with those decoders there normally is a potentiometer on board that allows to control the volume.
Regards
Tom

No, Tom, unfortunately, not on this model. The two potentiometers are there, but they only control acceleration/breaking delay as well as maximum speed. Hence my question to some user on this forum who might have the same locomotive.

I have the 37885 and brought nearly 10 years ago, Still in boxed for a while.

There is no potentiometer for whistle expert two for speed and acceleration/braking delay.

37885 functions I have.

F0 On/off - Headlights
F1 Smoke
F2 Telex at back.
F3 Whistle
F4 Acceleration/braking delay

I have test run well with 6021 and CS2 last year but I have to test again with whistle late.
