Hi,

I have one perfect new boxed NSB 4242.2 with close couplers and two perfect new boxed NSB 4243.1 with normal couplers. I will soon get another set of like new boxed one 4242 and two more like new boxed 4243 cars. So then I have 6 NSB cars to have a "full train". These 4242 and 4243 NSB cars are more expensive than 29660 starter set NSB cars if sold separately from starter set.

But, what is the difference except the price? RollEyes I have four NSB locomotives and I would like to buy later 29660 cars to make another "full train". I have three NSB Nohabs 3068, 3137, 3143 and steam locomotive 3417 a 63. I will maybe never run my 4242 and 4243, but those 29660 could be run then. Both sets will be mostly in the display cases to show full trains.

These 4242 and 4243 are also more expensive than their French cousins 4244, 4245 and 4246. I like also these and will have also a "full train" of these in the next week.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Janne

Hi,

I found myself information from Svein´s (intruder) website:

4242 baggage car has road number 21402 and baggage car from 29660 starter set has road number 21401. I don´t know if there is other differences or not except couplers from 4242.1 vs. 29660?

4243 passenger car has road number 19926 and two passenger cars from 29660 starter set has road numbers 19923 and 19925. I don´t know if there is other differences or not except couplers from 4243.1 vs. 29660?

All baggage cars have the same lenght 22,0 cm and passenger cars 23,0 cm.

Regards,
Janne

Hi Janne,

The colour of the new cars is little bit darker than the colour of the 1980s. But not so much that you can't use them side by side.

Regarding the old cars you must not miss the "fallen down before photographed" - edition from 1987 with exclusive coupler on one sideBigGrin :

Thanks Markus!

It must be a "super rare" collectors item when it has fallen down before photographing LOL . Maybe Koll's list it as 4243.1F and price is 300 euro Wink

I just got home and now I have two 4242.2 and four 4243.1 . Those 29660 cars are also worth buying and I will maybe buy two sets of them (total of 6 cars) and mix the cars to have two similar trains and more variety in road numbers per train.

Cheers,
Janne

The Norwegian text translated to English :

4243 B1 - Passengerwagon

The wagon originally came to Norway during the war as a hospital wagon
and was then painted in NSB colors and put into operation. Overall there were 9 wagons.

Unfortunately I do not have the 4242 and 423 second edition, so I cannot compare them with the ones in the 29660 starter set.

From photos they seem to be rather identical, except for the number.

4242-1, Relex couplers, no. 21402, bogies type 11-a, bellows 3 mm long
3242-2, close couplers, no. 21402, , bogies type 11-b, Bellows 6 mm long

4243-1 , Relex couplers, no. 19926, bogies type 11-a, bellows 3 mm long
3243-2, close couplers, no. 19926, , bogies type 11-b, bellows 6 mm long

29660-2
29660-2
close couplers, no. 19923, bogies type ??, bellows 7 mm long (measured by me, below the end window)

29660-3
29660-3
close couplers, no. 19925, bogies type ??, bellows 7 mm long (measured by me, below the end window)

To compare:

4243-1, Relex couplers, no. 19926, bogies type 11-a, bellows 3 mm long
Märklin 4243-1
I have installed close couplers Märklin 7205 and a long bellow in one end

29660-4
29660-4
close couplers, no. 21401, bogies type ??, bellows 7 mm long (measured by me, below the end window)

4242-1, Relex couplers, no. 21402, bogies type 11-a, bellows 3 mm long
Märklin 4242-1 coductor side
have installed close couplers Märklin 7205 and a long bellow in one end

Please note that the NSB F1 model from Märklin has different window arrangement and sign text on the two sides.

Hi,

Thanks for pictures of 29660. The baggage car has a yellow stripe which goes all the way also over the doors. Older version has doors without this stripe going over them. Also all 29660 has small details in silver and older versions does not have these details in silver colour, but instead in brown colour.

I think that it is good there is some easily seen visible differencies between 29660 and 4242/4243. 29660 are worth to buy to get a little variation to the trains. I think I will buy also two 29660 sets (6 cars) as they look also so beautiful! Love Norway has beautiful Märklin models and the Norwegian nature is also very beautiful. Nice country Svein! Wink

Janne

Hi again,

Here is a photo of my NSB 4242 and 4243. I don't have the skills to take very good pictures of them, but now you can see what I mean by the differences to 29660 NSB:

Thanks for the photos, Janne.
