I bought a 21pin Mfx decoder, on EBay, from a Marklin 30080 (BR01) and want to know what the Marklin part number is for it. I can the download the manual for it. I've attached a photo to help. Thanks in advance. Mancsaint Edited by user 05 October 2013 12:08:12(UTC)

Hi!
The decoder is a crippled 60942 (see Markus's post for a link to the manual).
The decoder does not support DCC and not everything described in the manual will work with that decoder. |

The seller sent me the manual for the 30080 and yes the functions are limited to lights, smoke generator and ABV. As usual Marklin only say Mfx and the parts listed do not even mention the decoder.
Thanks for your help.

Forget the 30080 manual, the 60942 manual is a better source of information. But because DCC is missing, you will need a Central Station or ECoS for any advanced setting. |

The "uncrippled" 60942 supports DCC and a lot of settings can be changed with an IB using DCC. The "crippled" decoder from 30080 does not support DCC and only few settings can be changed with an IB using MM protocol. |

Thank you Tom, Looks like my decoder was removed to be replaced with an "uncrippled" decoder.

I'm not sure why the decoder was removed. Perhaps they were parting out a new loko. The HEP motor sells for $65 US, so you can do well if you have a buyer for all the pieces. If they were just replacing the decoder, I would have left the 21 pin adapter board and plugged a new decoder into that. I plugged an ESU V4 LoPi into mine. No need to rewire it then either. |
Matt Era 3 DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control. With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397. |

Maybe someone wanted sound and also replaced the board, maybe someone needed certain parts to fix an old 3008 - maybe there's a completely different explanation. |

Even with a sound upgrade you will need the adapter board. Makes no sense to remove that unless you like to redo factory wiring and solder connections performed by a person with countless hours of experience we as hobbyists could never come close to.
Parting out a new loko never came to me either until I saw it at ebay.de. |

Somebody who doesn't know how to connect the speaker to the old board may prefer to replace the board. Just speculation. If you can get a loco cheaply, if may work to take her apart and sell the pieces separately. |
