Several months ago, I bought five nicely detailed Era I/II Bavarian design branch line coaches in two eBay lots w/o OBXs or paperwork: (1) #43019 Grafenberg 3-Car set, and (2) Two coaches from a #43981 Palatine set. While not prototypically correct, they fit together well as an attractive 5-car consist pulled by either a BR 64 (shown) or a BR 75 tank loco (first two photos). Though in otherwise near-mint condition the spoked OEM wheelsets on the green Grafenberg coaches had been replaced by un-spoked AC wheels. They’re functionally fine, but not-so-good aesthetically & I’d like to fix that (see comparison in last two photos). My question = What is the Marklin part number for spoked AC wheelsets that fit? I’ll need 6 axles. I believe they are 10 mm diameter with stepped needle tips. Axle length is 25-26 mm(?). The Marklin part number for spoked DC wheels is listed as 32376004, but I’ve not been able to find the part number for the AC sets. Hi Richard. No need to look for the 3-rail version per se! The 2 rail version will do just fine, providing you slightly re-gauge them to 13.8 to 14.0 mm (inner spacing between wheel flanges.) On the other hand, if you are adamant on getting the insulation between wheels removed, that also can be achieved relatively easily. If you can't find them, contact me via PM, maybe we can arrange something. Cheers |

Hi, Richard,
If you manage to find similar Trix coaches, then you will also find the number for the AC wheelsets there. Maybe the Märklin service can give you the numbers. |
Regards Tom --- "In all of the gauges, we particularly emphasize a high level of quality, the best possible fidelity to the prototype, and absolute precision. You will see that in all of our products." (from Märklin New Items Brochure 2015, page 1) ROFLBTCUTS |

Tom & Jacques – Thanks for your tips and the suggestion to check Trix. They do make KWStE coaches that appear essentially identical to the 3-car Marklin 43019 set. The Trix models are #23226, 7 & 8. They also list spoked AC wheelsets for them as #34382604. I assume the Trix wheels are compatible with the Marklin cars.
Now I need to find a vendor who stocks or can order the wheelsets at an affordable price. A quick search found them not listed on the Trix site or at Walthers (Trix US distributor). I'll look better later this week. Ah well . . . . . making progress by steps.
Thanks again – Richard |
