Hello, my name is Michael.

I like to show you the steps i build a Turnout Keyboard for the MS2 or CS2.
This Selfmade Keyboard is build with parts of the "CAN-Digital-Bahn Projekt".

With the Keyboard is it possible to switch 16 turnouts or other with the DCC or
MM protocol. With a special cable it can conected to the Railbox/MS2 or CS2.

First you need some parts...

Parts from "Reichelt.de":
2x 5 Volt Voltageregulator 1A / µA 7805
2x CAN –Bus Controller / MCP 2515-I/P
2x High Speed CAN Transceiver / MCP 2551-I/P
2x Standardquarz 16MHz / 16,0000-HC18
4x Keramik-Kondensator 33pF / KERKO 33P
6x Keramik-Kondensator 100nF / KERKO 100N
8x Resistor 1/4W 2,7KOhm / 1/4W 2,7K
10x Resistor 1/4W 10kOhm / 1/4W 10K
32x SMD Resisitor 1,6KOhm / SMD 1/4W 1,6K
2x DIP-Switch, 8pol. / NT 08
2x RJ45 Buchse / MEB 8-8
2x IC-Socket 40pol. / GS 40P
2x IC-Socket 18pol. / GS 18P
2x IC-Socket 8pol. / GS 8P
16x 3mm LED LowCurrent green / LED 3MM 2MA GN
16x 3mm LED LowCurrent red / LED 3MM 2MA RT
16x Switch Green / DT 6 GN
16x Switch Red / DT 6 RT
1x Connector / SL 1X40W 2,54
1x Connector / BL 1X20W 2,54
1x cable / LITZE BR
A few srews and other things...

A box (i selected the Axxatronic Pultgehäuse RA 1 von "Conrad.de")

And the parts from CAN-digital-Bahn Projekt:
2x Curcuit Board "WeichenKeyboard"
2x WeichenKeyboard PIC

Michael,

This is really excellent. Thanks for posting it here. The idea of being able to add a keyboard, especially for MS2 is really exciting. How did you carve the numbers in the stainless steel button cover?

It´s a nice project...but not holding with MS2/CS2 since they have keyboard too.
With CS2 you can also build up an screen signal tower.

@Goofy:
Yes, that is right... the MS2 and the CS2 have Buttons for the turnouts.. but at the MS2 you must Switch between driving and the turnouts.. and at the CS2 you can handel it with the Touchscreen or a Computer... but i like to have a additional method for the turnout Switches and i like to press "real" Buttons on a Turnout-Keyboard.

Furthermore at the CAN-digital-Bahn Projekt there a more Modules for a Signal Tower with "real" Buttons and Lights.

And there is a USB-Interface for the MS2 / Railbox, called "CC-Schnitte". With this Interface you can controll your Trains and Turnouts with a Computer and a MS2 / Railbox.

Well, yes, of course you can control switches with the MS2, but with 16 ones, it is really annoying, believe me, when my CS2 was on "vacation" and have to opérate my médium layout ( about 25 switches ) with the MS2 only at the end, i drove most of them by hand....
On the other hand, with the CS2 everything is smoother and the ability to just click on the layout scheme page IMHO makes the keyboard not very useful...

If Marklin did just fix the problem like to produce an keyboard with touch screen at next side of the system.
I mean an seperate keyboard to choise by to get it.
I was closed to build up an image switchgear and control locomotivs digital in my layout.
When i use keyboard with my MS2 it´s easy...but i have only 8 turnouts to control with it.
It´s was better digital system before to build up in step at a time...but more expensive!!

Very interesting project...

As I understand, it would be easy to build a bigger one too - lets say with 64 turnouts for use with eg Ecos or CS1/2?

Just copy and use more of the boards in parallel and just set the bottom DIP to the correct address of your 6083(s), if I have understood it correctly?

There is nothing like real push button operation for immediate interactivity feel... Smile

Hello Webmaster,

yes, that is right.

2x Circuit Boards is for a 16er Turnout-Keyboard
4x Circuit Boards 32 Turnouts
6x Circuit Boards 48 Turnouts
8x Circuit Boards 64 Turnouts

and so on...

With the DIP-Switch you can adjust the Adress range.

But you can use it only with the MS2 or CS2.

Or you can use the "Turnout-Keyboard" without any Central. Than you Need Turnout-Decoder for the CAN-Databus.
The Decoder are called: "WeichenChef" for Magnet, Servo or Motor Turnouts.

The Website for the CAN-digital-Bahn Projekt: http://www.can-digital-bahn.com

It is not my projekt... i am only a Fan and somtimes i write instructions for the selfmade "CAN-Modul" with the Circuit Boards.
