Hi All,

Today I received my new purchased 100% mint Faller AMS B-4921 Sport Hotel.

This AMS Sport Hotel makes the heart of every AMS enthusiast beat at 4921 strokes a minute.

Of all the 13 AMS buildings, the Sport Hotel is probably the most beloved one, due to the very cool feature that the AMS cars can drive under the overhang of the Hotel.

B-4921 is definitely the most rare AMS kit if you are looking for an unmounted specimen.

It is said that the prototype was build in 1928 and was to be found behind the former grandstand of the Nürburgring race track in Germany, and was heavily damaged in the 2nd WW. I doubt whether this prototype story is correct.
It is quite clear that the AMS Sport Hotel has her roots in the older Faller kit B-99 Station Lindental.

The B-4921 Sports Hotel was in the Faller program from 1963 to 1969.
The Hotel was still displayed in the 1969/70 catalog, but then vanished from the catalogs and also wasn't listed anymore in the 1970 and later price lists.

Now, in 2012, the price of an unmounted B-4921 kit on Ebay.de is around € 200,= .

Enjoy watching the pictures.

Marco

Hi Marco

what an excellent findThumpUp

You now have at least two mint unbuilt Faller buildings and the question remains - are you going to build them or just have them as part of your collectionConfused

I love the robust and optimistic air of these old AMS kits. Not unlike some older M* stuff. Great find!

Hi Mike & Hi Ian & Hi Stephen and Hi Brandon,

Thanks !!!

I still don't know if I'm going to build the beauty.
I'm in no hurry. I'm still enjoying looking at all those lovely sweet tiny parts.

Maybe I'll buy a 2nd one and build it, occasionally there pops one up on German Ebay.
At the moment there is a not so expensive AMS Sport Hotel for sale on Ebay.de.....

Hi Marco

Very nice catch! It´s always hard to decide whether to build the kit or not, especially when they are in almost mint condition. A friend of mine always says: "It´s something sad about toys that never were played with" when he finds a mint condition toy in the origin box. I have to agree with him about that. Toys are built to be played with and construction kits to be assembled IMHO.

Hi Mats,

A forum friend on a German forum told me: Das Glücksgefühl beim bauen eines solch alten Bausatzes, ist durch nichts zu ersetzten...
" You can't compare the happiness of building such an old kit with anything else..."

By the way, I saw that the other B-4921 kit is now offered with 25% discount....Blink

Hi all

Marco, if you can find yourself an already-built B-4921 but maybe the condition is not so good, remember that this kit is a variation of the Lindental Station B-99 and many of the parts will be interchangeable, perhaps some different colours but still the same pattern. The most important piece will be the unique Baseplate to suit the AMS track curvature and perhaps other details like the "Sport Hotel" sign etc but it might at least help you with your kit-bashing. Hi Marco, Cookee

Even though the price on the ebay is 25% off it´s still is too much for me. My limit is around 100 euros for an unbuilt 4921. It´s just a Lindentahl station with another base plate and some extra signs as Cookee already said. You can get an unbuilt Lindentahl for around 25 euros, why pay so much extra for the baseplate and signs?

I have a second-hand Sport Hotel that need some care. It misses the big letters on the roof and have som glue and paint spots that needs to be fixed. I think it will be a perfect small project for me this winter.

I see a lot of this old Faller (art deco?) modernistic stations and houses on swedish ebay (tradera) Most of it is sold for under 10 EUR, (including that petrol station with the moving sign) Of course these buildings are worn and sometimes even broke. Mint condition kits are rare.

Still I think demand for these Faller kits are not as high here in Sweden as in Germany, Holland. It seems like typical swedish looking buildings like the Pola "Diö" station could generate much higher bids.

I see mint cond. french locos from Jouef in good condition with box selling for 12EUR. Noone wants them because they are french. But a wornout LIMA T43 of poor quality can generate up to 60EUR. I presume demand and supply of models vary by country.

Hi Loreleyexpress,

Welcome to the forum.
I'm afraid that Faller station B-99 has no 1:1 real life prototype.

Hi Marco and All.....I think it looks great as a station.

However, I do wonder if there is not something remotely similar to a prototype in Germany.
If you had to match it to one place in Germany... which/where would you choose?
